Rules on rejoining
Discussion
I've had a search of the Blue Book and it doesn't appear to say much on the matter of rejoining a race after an off. We had an incident at Donington at the weekend where a car entered a gravel trap, had to be towed out, and then rejoined. Does anyone know if there is a written rule about this - or is it at the discretion of the marshals, or the clerk of the course? I'm not talking about just spinning off onto grass, etc.

14.2.1. Should a car stop somewhere other than in the
pit lane it must be moved as soon as possible so that
its presence does not constitute a danger or hinder
other drivers. If the driver is unable to move the car,
marshals may assist. If such assistance results in the
driver rejoining the race, this must be done without
committing any breach of the regulations and without
gaining any advantage.

I think that answers the question (somehow missed that!) - thanks. From a marshalling point of view when snatching a car out of the gravel we are told from Race Control if the driver can rejoin or not so I guess it's down to the championship regs and the Clerk of the Course.
As a very general rule I have found that usually in shorter races if a driver needs towing out then they cannot rejoin, if we can push him out without using the tractors then he can usually carry on. Endurance races I have found that they are usually allowed to rejoin after being towed out but I must stress that this is my observation from my experiences while marshalling.
