Pub suggestion for leaving drinks, Oxford Circus, London

I'm off to pastures new at work and want to meet up with colleagues who don't know London too well, and need to head off to trains in different directions - so I'm keeping it simple and want to meet up within 5 mins of Oxford Circus.

If I'm in the area, I usually meet up with friends at the Argyll Arms - that's ideal the sort of place I'm after, but a bit pokey for this gathering, but still want to go a traditional boozer, that does nice beer and perhaps some food that has a bigger bar area in to easily swallow up say, 20 people.

Does a great range of bitter's which change regularly and a good choice of lager too. They also do fantastic pies....you have to love any pub that has a recommended pint to have with each pie on the menu.

It's got a pretty big bar area....not masses of standing space but loads of tables.

True but it's one of those things....if it's a good pub you aren't going to be able to get space for twenty. Might be worth asking if they can reserve two or three tables together. They have a couple of bigger tables away from the bar. Thursday and Friday it gets busy that's for sure.

The restaurant there is done by pop-ups, so it varies massively. Have had some stunning food and some average food.

A lot of pubs just up the road in the Fitzrovia area that should cater. Can't comment on food quality, however.

For work do's we normally end up in Little Italy...watch out for prostitutes after 11pm though!

Good shout - we have had our last few Christmas do's there, always good food and excellent atmosphere, staff are always very accommodating!

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, it's going to be the Cock Tavern. Nice and close to Oxford Circus, we may end up in the Windmill a bit later for a pie, dependent on numbers.
