Smart Car fire

Walking through my local town this morning, saw a broken down Smart Forfour about to be towed. However as I got closer, noticed the whole front left side had melted. Apparently it just caught fire while driving!

A little research online and it seems smart car fires are pretty common. Anyone else seen this and know the cause?

It's because the brakes get so hot when they're busy ditching TVRs on the B-roads.

A FourFour is just a re-bodied Mitsubishi rather than the more 'traditional' FourTwo.
