Building your own wheels, yah or nah?

I need new wheels for the mtb and thinking about building my own. They will only be cheap ones as the bike oldish. The lbs has quoted £140 to supply a complete front wheel. Thats a mavic 317 rim, a hope disc hub and spokes plus building.

Is building your own fun and advisable?

A quality truing stand like the Parktool TS 2.2 is about £150 but the Parktool TS8 is less than £100. Just depends how often you will use it and when you will recoup those costs. I'd bet there are a few on ebay from people who gave it a go but didnt have the patience.

Your LBS are quite pricey too!

Ghetto style: At a pinch you can use a bike flipped upside down and do it in the dropouts, with lolipop sticks at right angles on the seatstays. But there's no point having two threads running on same topic
