I *really* like the general-gassing forum for the mix of car related stuff that doesn't seem to fit anywhere else!

I *really* hate all the off-topic stuff - it's nearly all (to me) just drivel (IMHO).

Can we split the forums so there that is a car-related general-gassing and a non-car related general-gassing?

Please?

Thanks Ted - keep up the excellent work.

It's a fair point discussed many times before.

I do feel more inclined to try it now though...

Go on - you know it makes sense!

Are you bribable (OK, everyone is, so the question is only - "how cheaply")? I have an extensive (car related) video collection :-)

The other car forum I visit have an off topic non car related section that is emptied on a regular basis to reduce server space.

Disagree - there are too many sub groups and in any case, topics can dive in and out of car relativity at any time.

The whole point about GG is that it is precisely that: I see no reason why a debate on horse hoing husbandry should not include allusions to David Coulthard's jaw line or the dump valve on an imported Skyline GT-R.

It's a free for all: the exact literary antidote to our draconially over governed realm.

May Gawd bless it and all who sail therein!

I agree with DeR on this one.
(I mean NO , to a new group, keep GG as it is)

I applaud freedom of speech and expression.

No problem - that's why I suggested two groups - one for those who like discussing (basically) car-unrelated topics, and one for those that are (99%) car-realted.

Taken to extreme - your notion is that there should only be one forum as items relating to Porsche, or Speed Plod and the Law, could touch on other matters and thus be interesting to a wider audience.

I'd love to read all the groups, but I don't have time, so I focus on those groups that I find in general most interesting in the knowledge that occasionally I may miss a gem that was posted about the new Skoda supercar in General TVR Gossip!

Indeed, I have to admit that I don't read most topics in GG but once every blue moon I'd like to discuss big football/sporting events with fellow PHers. Usually these threads are quickly locked only to be replaced with some rubbish about e-bay. A separate forum would be ideal.

Joe,

I don't really subscribe to the parochial forum doctrine, preferring instead to scan the General list for compelling title threads.

Funnily enough, I find this less time consuming than trawling through individual forae although for that critical globule of technical knowledge, one always needs to address the Chief Goblin of one's selected discipline, admittedly.

Yep. Wot he said.

This is a good point about how PH is used however. I default to the "whats new" page and just dive into anything that looks interesting..
