Its my birthday today (yaaay) and I had made it known to all and sundry that I would rather like little MP3 player.

I've pointed out various sale items, and was hoping for something along the lines of a Nomad. (cheap, album or two of storage etc)

Blow me if I didnt unwrap a 20 Gig network walkman this morning!

Its TINY - size of a credit card and about a centimetre thick. I could damn near tuck this thing in my wallet.

I havent set it up yet, its charging in it's cradle on my desk at work waiting for me to get home and fill it with tunes :P

Couple of questions for anyone in the know?

Any idea if there are any accessories or toys for it? Cant seem to find any on a google or Sony search.

Can I use this as a portable file storage device for things other than MP3 music files? Ie spreadsheets, pictures etc.

I seem to recall hearing about something that would let you transfer files to a mass storage device without having to use a PC. Does this ring a bell with anyone? ie camera to storage device etc.

I've got a nasty feeling you may have to get the software to convert your MP3s to ATRAC files, which will take a long time - but they're small and sound good.

Have fun with it though!

Quick update for anyone who thinks about one of these. The software is rather cumbersome...

Converting existing MP3s to the ATRAC format is very time consuming and rather painful. On the other hand, copying a CD directly to the NW-HD1 is extremely fast.

Ive got a half dozen albums on there, it works, the sound quality is pretty good (but the max volume seems rather low) and I plan to throw another 10-20 on there tonight :P

Now if the damn thing would accept MP3 files (as promised in a software update soon apparently) then all would be a little more smiley!
