Carrera Fury / Boardman Urban Team... Spare wheel question

Can someone please provide a wheelset 101?
My carrera fury has a 15mm through axle on the front and a quick release on the back. I'd like a spare set of wheels so I can easily switch between slicks and nobblies, but I'm a little confused when scouring eBay. Are hubs different widths, i.e. do I know automatically that if I see a front wheel advertising that it takes a 15mm axle that it will fit? What does 130mm or 142mm mean for example? Are they all compatible?
And what about the rear... quick release seems to come in 9mm, 10mm, 12mm. Can my bike take any or those or just certain sizes? Can I simply buy a skewer from my lbs if one doesn't come with the wheel? If I get a disc rim, will it definitely take a compatible rim? Will all rims take a 9 sprocket cassette?
And does anyone know what hub / axle the Boardman Urban Team takes out of interest, front and rear please?
