Hi folks. Given that the last time I took a group to Le Mans Speedferries was the obvious choice for the budget-conscious traveller (leaving more money for suspect sausages and lukewarm stubbies), I'm at a bit of a loss as to which of the remaining providers to choose for the Dover-Calais run.

Does anyone have any good/bad experiences to share?

Have used both Newhaven -Dieppe and Portsmouth - Le Havre with LD Lines and can wholly recommend both if their route suits your plans.

Nice easy overnight crossing, gets you into France at either 4am Dieppe or 8am Le Havre

Great value too and have never let us down.

Yeah ferries, they're what you need. Or the tunnel. Otherwise you'll have to swim...

For Dover to Calais I think you've only got three choices, P&O, My Ferry Link and DFDS. Recent experience is that DFDS tend to be the cheapest. I'm always willing to pay afew quid more for the Tunnel, just because it so quick and easy, but you've got to book early to get a price even remotely competitive with a boat.

Another shout for LD Lines - used their Newhaven - Dieppe crossing a few times and just booked it again for the LM Classic next year @ £124 but that does include a 20% discount for being an old fart ! (well I have being doing the Sarthe trip for 33 years now so I have earnt my discount)

Just booked my regular chunnel crossing for £94 - same price as last year! Good value if coming from London direction
