carburator type of grantura mk1 with 100E engine
Discussion
Dear all,
Can one of you tell me what brand and type of carburator Layton Sports Cars placed in the Grantura MK1 with the Ford 100E engine with shorrock? If I look at the pictures in the book from Peter Filby "TVR The early Years" page 47, page 49 and 66 I think it is a Weber. Bud I can be wrong.
Who knows this and can tell me. Thanks.
gr. Pete

Hi Phillpot,
Sorry, this is not the combination. This engine belongs to Cantus. It's a pre crossflow but not a 100E engine. The 100E engine is a side valve engine. The shorrock is mounted at the other side of the engine. the pressure pipe out of the shorrock to the inlet manifold crosses the top engine.
regards Pete.

Hi David,
Thank you for your answer. I asume your reply answers my question. I asumed that the carburetor was Weber because of the acceleration pump. Bud looking at the pictures of the solex B32B carberator it seems that Solex also has an acceleration pomp. In the book of Peter Filby the pictures are not so clear to see the carburetor in full view. Thanks.
For everyone please look in the barn, attic and all other places to help me to get a solex B32B carburetor. Ask friends, family and every one else if they have one and if you know one please reply to me.
thanks.
regards Pete

hi,
according to http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/SolexCarbs... the B32B is used for the Standard Vanguard and Atlas Van (solex B32 B10-4) and Commer, Austin and Morris (solex B32BIPO)
and not for VW. VW uses Solex 26VFIS, 28PICT, 28PCI (according to that list).
Accoding to the document found on this page www.190slgroup.com/tech/images3/solex.pdf̴... the supercharged engine needs a 43mm solex carburetor. This is calculated on page 9 for a 1200cc engine with 6000 rpm and 0.52 bar overpressure.
the picture on page 2 of that document shows that the solex 32 PICB almost looks like the solex B32B carburetor. So if the Solex B32B carburetor cannot be found the Solex 32 PICB can be used without notice from most poeple. From Solex 32 PICB it is a small stap to the solex 34PICB who is used in a Mercedes Benz 180 serie and commen found on ebay.
for now I hope someone offers me a B32B carburetor. I hope to have the chassis running next spring. (I said hope but I know that many thing need to be done to reach that point.) then fiber works must be done, paint. I have from now at least 1 year to find one.
the Ford 100E engine I have now has a Solex B26 ZIC-2 carburetor so it can run without a supercharger.
regards Pete

nope, not if you want it to be correct. I have a complete 100e TVR set up for my Granny. TVR fitted the blower on the opposite side of the motor and the carb is a down draught unit fitted to the top of the Shorrocks.Use an SU ??

Hi,
Actacus, this item is offered for the second time. privious the price was 1999 USD. I asume no one want to buy it. as written the item need to be serviced. For your knolledge I already have bought a shorrock on ebay some time ago.
Wmo418, thank you for the link to the list. I see there are a few B32B carb for sale. If I cannot find one this person can probably supply me with one.
David, can you tel me if the carberator is a B32B10-4 or a B32BIPO? do you have som photo's of the engine with the mounted shorrock for me. I have to make a bracket to fit the shorrock on the ford 100e engine. is there a manufacturer code on the shorrock outlet manifold and is there a manufaturer code on the AL. inlet manufold mounted on the engine?
AL aluminium parts that are not availeble any more I will cast. (as I did for the cover of the differential. I don't like the polyester cover of the differential. it leaks )
