Anyone running a return to sump set-up? Be most interested in the configuration if anyone is...

Cheers,

No but interested.

Shirley there must be an element of breathing still.

Rocker breathers to catch tank.
Return from catch tank to sump.
Small vent on catch tank.

Hang on, just knocking one up now to test smile

True, I emptied my old 4.6 one a couple of years ago and it only had water in!

Will have more info tomorrow! Suspect it includes a separator, catch tank, and return to sump, with atmosphere vent somewhere in the mix!

The open system I have at the moment has rust proofed the chassis, but my Dad complains about the oil drips on his drive when I visit frown I do know that when it was 'standard' the oil from the breather was sitting in a rather large pool in the trumpet base! Seems it sucks like a New Orleans er, well ya know smile

I had the "pool of oil" on the TB when I was experimenting, also a full catch tank.

I just have both rockers venting to air atm but I will fit a catch tank before the 19th.

Problem with my catch tank is that a) the inlet to it is too close to the filter on top, so it's pretty much blowing oil vapour straight out, and b) there's no drain. That said it's not catching the oil anyway! Back up to Snetts in the morning, the guys will have a diagram smile Seems to be all about having an effective separator....

Someone must have fitted a return to sump system to a RV8... I'll do some more interweb digging smile

Peter, how did you fit an atmosphere vent to the passenger side rocker cover?

Daz, wip the plenum off and let us know if there's a pool of oil in there wink Take it you don't empty/check the catch tank on a regular basis?

Cheers mate,

Chilli

I don't think I've got an oil catch tank - car's completely dry underneath, no oil dripping. I feel short-changed..... furious

Should it return back in to the plenum or just to atmosphere ? All those vapours might contaminate the fuel .

Does the breather the other side lubricate the throttle disc?

I have experienced crankcase breathing problems, wonder if the catch tank should return back into the inlet side of the charger to create some sort of vacuum ?

I have both sides vented into catch tank with a filter on it.

Need to sort the little one on the rocker cover at the back as that's chucking oil out

That often happens on performance engines especially if you have the baffle plates removed.

I cut my mushroom off, ( see above).

Yep your right no baffle plates as running roller rockers, just looked on the web and some installs do return to the intake from the catch tank

Also I have mocal tank, this doesn't to appear to have internal baffles

Hmmmm what to do
