Got an 98 car with a kenwood car stereo in it, stereo's probably the same age?. The problem is it has been working fine, then the other day I tried to turn it on & no joy, the blinking red light flashes behind the face plate (it's one of those click face off models: Kenwood KRC 356L)so there must be power there ?
The surround plastic front came off ? but every time I put the face back on it & try the power button..no joy ? can't get hold of a manual either !
Any info would be appreciated, cheers.

Two things to try that I can think of;
1. Press the little reset button which one mine is a little hole on the front.
2. Check the fuse in the back of the radio, don't forget there are two 12v supply's, permanent and ignition so you could be only receiving one.
Reset first though.

You could also try some contact cleaner (Maplin sell it) on the face plate contacts.

The stereo requires two feeds to get it to turn on. Sounds like you have constant live, you need to check whether you've got switched live. Pop the radio out and check the connections and fuses. Failing this maybe new stereo time.

Many thanks for your input, will try the fuses. I have found the reset button & will try this too. I found a free manual for the kenwood car stereo on a website, had to register first then downloaded manual; it's a manual for total repairs not troubleshooting tips..but still handy I suppose if you ever wanted a repair manual ! http://www.hifi-manuals.com/
I will try having a go @ getting it powered up, cheers.

Good series of stereos, I had several of them over the years.

As noted above, from previous experience your issue will either be one of the live feeds has become disconnected or the small internal fuse in the back of the head unit itself has blown.
I believe they're 10amp and easily obtainable.
