The Jeep Patriot, circa 2010...any good? Is it relatively reliable? It seems very 'affordable' on the face of it for what you get. I appreciate the competition is probably better but they cost more too.

I'm looking for a 3rd car, just a general purpose runabout really that will do only a few miles a week so it doesn't need to be fancy. Don't want a money-pit or anything I will need to work on myself to keep on the road. Don't want an estate as I dislike them but do want an SUV/4X4 of this size or larger.

Thought I'd see if anyone here has one and can share their experience so that I can include this vehicle or exclude it from my search.

Cheers

I do not have a Patriot, ( though I have a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited). At least on this side of the pond, the Patriot does not do well on reliability and quality ratings and has a less than stellar reputation. I posted a UK link above as it may be more relevant....

Cheers.

The reviews are mixed it would seem from the research I've done.

All that said, I've found my car - Suzuki Grand Vitara 5 door. Didn't know they were in my budget and large enough! Perfect.

So that's that then, I'll look for one now.

We have a 2.4 Sport+ on a 2010.

No issues with reliability. Nice car - competent enough at what it does - but not earth shattering.

We have the 2.0 diesel Patriot, issues to date at 50kmiles are alternator, rear lateral link and the front lower wishbones were replaced when we purchased. Unfortunately the bushes seem a weak part in the Patriot.

For what it is, I think it's great as it has fantastic fuel economy (we average 47mpg mixed driving) and is more than capable of light offroad work if needed.
