RPM Technik near Tring

Hi, Decided at last to buy a Gen 1 Cayman 3.4s or 2.7. Looking at a Cayman 3.4s at RPM Techik near Tring (Hertfordshire), anyone ever delt with them or bought a car from them, they seem really friendly on phone but not sure if I should buy private (18k for the same type of car private) or buy from a dealer such as RPM, thye have a lovely grey 2006 3.4 s for sale for 21k !

When I have bought the cayman I would like to do the odd track day as well !

Any thoughts appreciated ?

Yep, have had both my 911's serviced there (996t is with them now, and bought it through them). They seem to turn stock round very quickly, have a great set up now, and their CSR brand is interesting. Will likely use them to sell/buy next time round.

Yep used them for the odd service item and they are knowledgeable, honest and competent. Ollie is ex JZM and Natalie on the front desk is lovely to chat to.

took my 997 there last week for some work impressed with there professionalism , they have a small showroom ,but the cars they have in look nice examples, there cars seem to sell quickly , I would say go for it , is it the cobalt blue one.

Have used them for suspension work, were very good.I'd buy a car from them,they know their stuff and seem very good to deal with. They buy stock very carefully, so I feel that a purchase from there should be pretty safe.

+1 for RPM.

knowledgeable and fair. they corner weighted and aligned my RS perfectly. One of the springs wasn't sitting true on it's perch and corner weighting gave puzzling results but RPM persisted and came up with a great setup. Top guys.

They move a lot of performance metal too. wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again.

As above. Top chaps. Not bought from them but I would. Used them for the last 3 or 4 years for (lots of!) servicing work.

Darren is very good at translating what you want from the car in to a recommendation for a particular model too, even if it means passing on a sale in the short term.

Got them diagnose an issue on my car - spent almost an hour looking at it and total charge was Zero

The only Indy who has been allowed to touch my car outside of the OPC network (apart from CoG for my Geo) and I highly recommend them and would definitely go back.

Tested a lovely 2.7 cayman 2008 with 23k miles 5 speed standard car absolutely mint, dealer asking 19k but not sure if I should wait for a decent 3.4 s to come up locally. This will be my first Porsche and just cant wait any longer.

Should I buy the 2.7 (lower costs all round) this will be our second car, probably 3-4 k miles a year plus the odd track day outing, seem to get a newer, lower miles 2.7 than a 3.4 s 2006 with 40-60k miles. My head says 2.7, heart says 3.4 Help.
Some say get the 3.4 s as its more torquey (drove one on Sunday woh!) others comment that 2.7 5 speed more purist especially handling ?
Oh, if I buy a 3.4 s should I also try and get PASM, most 3.4s dont seem to have it ?
Dealer or private ? Most dealers seem to give some type of warranty, RPM Technik, 911 Virgins etc
Budget is max 20k !

20k really tests how much more you want the extra power. You'll get s much newer 2.7.

I would want s 987.2 in your position and go for the S if there was a 2nd gen in good condition within budget; if not, I would go for a base 987.2 over a gen 1 S.
