Hi Tusker. Could you just clarify is that the time it takes to rebuild or waiting time to get it seen. I'm still waiting for a blackpool to give me a date.

Thanks

Lordy, a 2003 unit requiring a rebuild. There's not too many of those showing on JSG's survey. The chat I had with Service Dept was more along the lines of, "My dealer reckons I'll get the car back in 8 weeks, is this a fair assumption?".

"We've taken on some new staff, so yes, that's fair"

However, some previous threads by members on here point to anything up to a 5 month wait.

With mine delivered to them only 2 days ago and thus at the back of the queue, I'm still at the friendly chat stage. Think it's the queuing system that takes up the time, not the actual physical work concerned.

How long have you waited, Jo?

Apparently there is a little leak and they need to strip the engine to get at it, dealership have done some sort of temporary fix so I can still drive but still waiting for a date from Blackpool - dealership faxed them 3 weeks ago - still haven't heard.

It's all good tho, the engine warranty runs out at the beginning of Jan so I don't have to pay plus I get all the the latest mods - the only bummer will be loosing for all those weeks.

8 weeks? And that is 8 TVR weeks too!!

I thought all the engine issues were sorted now and TVR were no longer spending all their time fixing Speed Six engines.....seems they still have some issues to iron out

I'm looking at the positive that a winter 8 weeks is infinitely more preferable to a summer 8 weeks.

Plus I can join the "Post here if you've had a rebuild" clan at the next survey.

I wonder if they're selling new "working" cars quicker or slower than they're rebuilding old "broken" ones... i.e. if the overall percentages will be higher/lower if I run the same poll next year...

Your poll and it's aftermath made fascinating reading. Excellent job.

What annoys me is that at time of purchase is I told the dealer I didn't want a Tusc without a re-build. He assured me that the inherent engine problems were ironed out by the time mine had left the factory (March 2001)

Sadly, I discovered the car and then Pistonheads, not the other way around.

Just to clarify. The expected time to return of your vehicle is currently 8 weeks.

They added 7 engineers to the rebuild staff some 3/4 weeks ago which has reduced the time slightly. The queue is quite sizable and the return time had extended as far as 12 weeks, I believe, until they added these chaps.

Some people are getting theirs returned quicker than this because they went to TVR Power direct or their dealer sent their car to TVR Power. I believe that retrurn times from them are now in the 6-8 week bracket as dealers cottoned on to it.

My car has been in Blackpool for 3 weeks. It took a week to leave the dealership due to TVR only owning 2 flatbeds to ferry the cars around. When I called last Thursday I was told I was 12th in the queue and that they expected it to be 3 weeks before my car went to the engine shop. As far as I know it takes 2 days effort to actually do the rebuild work. So at the moment I am expecting my car back in almost exactly 8 weeks from the date I lost it.

If it was anything like mine it will take
you another week to get all the sand out
of the boot as the car's are left outside.

Indeed - I read somewhere on here that due to lack of space they take the engine out, put a sticky label on it & then push the vehicle back into the car park. I have a driver's door leak behind the wing mirror, so am looking forward to drying out the carpets.

Mine has been gone for 9 weeks. The week before last it was 5th in the queue, last week it was 5th in the queue! Apparently this is due to the wait on warranty companies giving the go ahead. This slows up the rebuilds on the cars that have had the engines taken out. We are ringing the factory tomorrow to find out where it is this week.
By the way Simon a decision has been made on the new car!!

R U still 5th?

I have "watertight" dealer warranty so hopefully no waiting for rubber stamps.

Barry,

Decision ! Email through my profile or post up if you're happy to tell the world.

I have no warranty. I will be paying for it myself so I don't expect any delays in getting the thing back. Thankfully my car was (reasonably) watertight when I let them have it so I shouldn't have to many issues with it being parked up outside.

I'll call at the end of the week and see where it is in the queue.

Yep thats the case, IIRC the front carpets are but in the boot, if you are concerned ring Lesley at the factory and ask her to but the mats in the boot for you, it`s the least they can do
