Never seen an engine that didn't have a dip stick confused

IIRC the dipstick is the black (sometimes red) item that looks like a small oil cap at the back of the engine cover (near the scuttle)

But I could have the wrong engine in mind

ETA unless you mean it's been lost...

You should be able to check the level via the instrument panel.

Also, if it's overfilled a warning message would appear.

i got the car with no owner books, i did see the black top tube as in photo 1, i thought this was for the auto box as its so far back, when i pulled it out there is only about an inch of plastic attached to the ring pull top.

as for how much, i have no idea, but lets say more than anyone knowingly would fill

The easiest but slightly costly fix would be to drain the lot out and refill

with the correct amount.

What makes you think it's been overfilled?

My old E320cdi didn't have a dipstick, which was really annoying.

What makes you think it has been overfilled?

the car starts and drives great......but if you have driven nice and slow/gentle for say five miles, then floor it you can lose visual contact with whatever is behind you (blue smoke) and i really mean lose.

but if you drive a very short distance then floor it it seems fine. even gone down long hill with no throttle then opened her up with no smoke

sounds like more of a problem than finding the dipstick, crankcase compression = smoke screen when foot applied.

As far as Mercedes are concerned you have no business to be looking under the bonnet, be off with you, there is nothing to see there.

Once over filled a w210 a tad.

It made it clear that I was to stop and call for assistance.

The dip stick at the back is for the auto box and merc don't even supply a dipstick for that. If it's blowing blue smoke out the back then as others say it more of a problem then to much oil.

Does it not have electronic oil check sensor, you check it with the on board computer, I know my 2001 CLK55 does.

But looking at those pics it looks something more serious frown
