Sl55 advice on a wheel swap - Help
Discussion
Advice please!!!
I have an 2003 SL55, it has the original 5 spoke alloys and I want put some sharper wheels on it, I don't like the turbines IMHO they are just too fussy. Clearly I would love a set of SL65 split rims, but new they are 5K a set and buying 2 piece used wheels it something of a lottery, also 19 inch are a little bit more fragile - Im considering a set of wheels I've seen for sale, they are AMG IV as fitted to E55s I think. Broadly a set of staggered 8.5 and 9.5 18 inch 5 x twin spoke wheels, Very similar to the look of the SL65 wheels but without the 2 piece issues or the migration to 19 inch - The only issue that im unsure about is the ET, 28 and 25 I recall 5mm less than my current wheels respectively. Practically this moves the centreline of the wheel 5mm "outward" thus will increase the track of the car by 10mm - Will this be an issue? Your broader advice appreciated, brake clearance or whatever........ Thanks

With an Et of 25 and 28 I would think they are from a CLS rather than an E class. My E55 wheels are Front 30 rear 39, similar to the R230 SL. I know someone who fitted CLS wheels to an S211 Estate and they looked really good, filling out the arches nicely. A wider track would increase your turning circle, and different bolts may be required, but as long a they clear the arches should be fine.
