Looking for other people's tyre-life experiences/expectations please.

My rear tyres are just approaching the tyre wear indicators, so need to get some more soon. Tyres are Goodyear Eagle F1 A2's, in 255/35R18, on an E46 330Cd.

I've managed to get about 25 thousand miles out of my rears, is this any good?

Aside from cost, I've been very happy with the Goodyears. Bit worried about changing just the rears for cheaper ones, as I was on different makes front to rear prior to this set, and I found out that all the internet chatter about E46's disliking different brands was completely true, with the DSC light seemingly spending more time on than off!!

However, are there other brands that could get significantly more mileage out of the tyres?

Cheers,
Effortless.

25,000 is above average. I'd be happy to get 20,000 miles out of a set of tyres on the driven wheels of any car, especially on a high grip (high wear) tyre like an Eagle F1.

Blimey, 25k out of a set of rears on a BMW??? Now that's what I would call impressive to be honest!

Actually EVO magazine have a tyre test in this month's issue and the F1's come out on top.

I use Michelin PS3's on my Skoda Octavia VRs, which is only a 1.8 turbo. Admittedly it's had a remap and the turbo comes in quite hard so the fronts do suffer a bit, but I am happy if I can tease anywhere around 15k out of the fronts. In fact, I switch my wheels around to share the wear, and by the time anything over 20k comes around, the whole set need replacing (although I am a bit OCD with tyres and replace them at about 2mm).

So I would stick with the GoodYears if I was you - in fact I think I might be giving them a go myself now.

Bridgestone Turanzas are great for wear and wet weather, distinctly average in the dry though. Got 40k from a pair on the back of a small FWD car that gets hung out around the corners.

Ha ha!! That includes a couple of track days as well!!

I think I'll cough deeply and get another set for the rears... they have been faultless after all...

Cheers all for comments and advice,

I managed over 18k on a set of those on my Mustang, and that included around 20 passes on a drag strip too.

Though the front and rears are the same size so I rotate them every 5k when I do an oil change.

That's bloody good for the driven wheels on a relatively powerful car.
