The girlfriend and I are going on holiday to San Francisco / Los Angeles / Chicago. We're hiring a car (SUV maan) and will driving the Golden coast, Highway 1/101 etc. Lots of sight seeing etc as well.

Was initially thinking GoPro for mounting in car etc but Im up for alternative suggestions. Be good if its a size to fit in her handbag.

Are you thinking of a time lapse style video? So like 30 hours driving compressed down to a couple of minutes? Go pros are very good at that, doesn't even have to be one of the new hero 3s you could get a hero 2 and still get great results.

Had considered how it would be edited actually but that sounds a good idea.. The idea will probably be to mount it and let it work away while driving then take it out walks / view when we stop off. We'll use it for other city going ons - the hustle of the streets / firework displays / sunset blah blah..

It'll probably end up that I'll use it for other things such as cars and motorbike when Im back home.

If you mount it in the car and record continuously you will (a) use up a lot of memory cards, and (b) have a *load* of stuff to delete. I record sprints from an onboard camera and the amount of waiting around probably only amounts to about 30 mins but it takes ages to import and then ages to sort through for 5-10 mins of good footage.
