Hi

My moped was taken by thieves on Friday night in Headingley. West Yorks Police found it in Bramley today and it was recovered by KD Bros who are based off Regent Street.

I've been unable to make contact with them yet, does anyone know approx how much I will have to pay to get the moped back?

Thanks
Nick

Got the details.

For anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation it is £150 for the recovery and £10 per day storage.

That confused me. So the police find a stolen item, then contacts a firm to recover the stolen item, who then charge you for the fact they recovered the item and stored it? Was any attempt made to contact you before it was recovered? I had my first car stolen and it was found the next day by the police so I went to get it myself. If it had not been driveable though I'd have expected a call so I could get the RAC to shift it. I'd have had a fit if they told me it had been found but I owe them £200 as they got some firm to shift it first

Seems very unfair on you.

Does the insurance pay it?

if you claim, yes, but most moped owners are young, so any claim is probably going to put more than £150 onto their insurance premiums, especially if they are planning on buying a car anytime soon!

OP - sorry to hear about this, no doubt there will be damage too if it's been nicked!!! frown

That's the way it works. A few years back I had my Rover 416 Gti stolen from my driveway. It wasn't the most amazing car in the world but at the time its all I had to get around with. Market value was £300 at most, my excess on the insurance was £250. Car was found 48 hours later and instead of contacting me the police ended up having it recovered. Had to pay £150 to them for the pleasure of picking it up a good 10-15 miles away despite the fact that they found it 5 miles away from my house.

Had they called me when the car was found I could have easily pushed it down the road to a garage near to the location of the car. Instead I had to pay for it to be towed on a flatbed to the same goddamn garage. To top it off, the gues that stole it had left some trainers in the car which the police didn't bother to check, and the fingerprint dust was a bh to remove.

Sucks doesn't it Giblet!

The moped was a 1984 Honda Spacy (same as the one in Terminator). It only cost me £250 (needed a little work and MOT) but I got it through and it is really rare. They pretty much killed the wiring so the pop up light doesn't work.

Why was it recovered? If it was for forensic examination they they pay all fees.
