How come the railways have shutdown ?
Discussion
its gona be a bit breezy overnight and my line is already shut down and wont be running any trains until at least 9am for safety reasons
what happens if this wind dows not come, you just know they still wont run the trains
as for trees, on my line they have cut them all back so the trees will have to fall about 100 years to get to the lines

On loads of lines trees on embankments are still very prevalent. The high winds seem to be arriving from midnight and having trains running in the dark with the possibility of fallen trees would be high risk given that your average train headlight is pants and train braking distances are knickers.

I hope they get the trains running again sooner than that.what happens if this wind dows not come, you just know they still wont run the trains

Thing is, if they don't shut them down and something happens then everyone will moan 'why didn't they shut the lines' . As they have shut them everyone is moaning 'why did they shut them' ? It's an impossible situation really. If my trains aren't running tomorrow then I'd obviously be terribly upset at the prospect of having to stay home on a Monday what happens if this wind dows not come, you just know they still wont run the trains

ah you mean like Monday when most of Kent could not get in to London Bridge due to a man and his spanner not spannering quick enough
its rubbish even if its 1987 again they need to keep the lines open, for onece keep the bloody trains tunning all night just to make sure its all clear, not stick their heads in a wet bag and hope the ticket paying cattle they move about go away

Will be interesting to see in the morning what's really happened, at the moment I will be at least an hour late for work thanks to SW trains.
Similar nonsense when it snows or around Xmas period they are far too keen not to run - it should be the other way round - we will do whatever we can to keep trains running not stop everything it might be a bit windy.

What I find mental is the fact they've already decided since earlier today that they won't be operating at all until 9am at earliest. Seems excessively precautious, surely they can just make that decision tomorrow morning at 6am?
Making the decision now means TOCs can plan for tomorrow. Making the decision at 6am means it would be harder to run a service as trains and staff could be all over the place. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
