Once upon a time, in a land where Sat Navs were science fiction, I invested in one of these little chaps:

It worked brilliantly, telling me where the traffic jams were, and how bad they were. In real time.

So well, in fact, that I later bought a couple of spares, fearing they would disappear from the shelves.

Roll forward a decade of so . . . .

. . . . and all three have stopped working.

At least, they switch on but do not seem to respond to the Trafficmaster heads on motorway overbridges and (blue) poles alongside the roads.

So, does anyone really know why they have stopped working? Has Trafficmaster changed the frequency of their magic rays? Do I now have to sign up to a monthly deal?

Or do I just have to bite the bullet and buy an all-singing, all-dancing £300+ TomTom permanently locked in to traffic (non-) movements?

(Yes, I am a tight bugger. I did live in Yorkshire for over 30 years, after all). smile

I have obtained the following from Trafficmaster directly:

Dear Cliftonite,
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately this service was ceased in June 2012.
We are in the process of removing our sensors so you may find in certain areas you may receive data however this will eventually fade out.
I have attached a user guide for our Smartnav Navigation system to this email for your reference along with our Tariff Prices. For the unit, installation and 1 years warranty this is £349.00.
I hope this has been helpful.

Seems to have everything covered!

Do you own a smart-phone, then TomTom Smartphine - overwise a TomTom Live (Amazon have some of older models cheaper than 200, but will require a annual fee.

I remember buying a TrafficMaster YQ2 for jam updates. Most of the time when you were in a jam it would show up as a jam 15 minutes later.
