I had to send my lisence to the dvla to get my address changed on it. I know the chances of it are very slim but what if it got sent back with a new 'class' on it with out carrying out the test?

Say it got given back to me with a motorbike lisence on it 'class A' I think is the full one. Or a lisence to able me to tow a trailer 'class B+E'
. Would this be the ideal chance to get on and do it (both of which I can do but not taken a test for) or would it be possible to get fined for not taking the tests?

No test taken to cover it then its illegal to ride/drive it = simple

Human errors can occur but that does not change the law

You're dreaming mate.

Sounds like you've already put the deposit down on that Augusta MV...

I'm not disputing that, just wondering what procedures would have to be gone through to prove that the test had not been done and if authorities would do or just take thecard on face value.

just curious about how much damage a human error could cause. Not sure if damage is the right word there but not sure what is.

Rule 1. Take a copy of the licence (both sides of both parts if you have a photocard licence) before sending it off.

Rule 2. If it comes back with an error, tell them and use a copy of the copy as evidence.

Admittedly, licence holders losing entitlements seems to be the usual form (or perhaps because those who gain entitlements don't mention it?) smile .

Damage? Mate of my dad lost his job thanks to a DVLA fk up removing all his bus licences, bike licence, car licence... They denied all fault, and he had to redo the lot. (his job was a council run support bus service)

A mate of mine took his car test, got a bike licence back. his instructor, examiner and him tried repeatedly to get them to put the licence right - they never did. Despite the fact he had never ridden a bike, despite the fact there was no record of him doing a bike test of any sort he was told that there was no record of him doing his car test... (They also refused to remove the bike entitlement, and they got the second car test right)

Still uses it, although I don't know if he's ever been pulled over.

Spelling edit.

i think the chances are you would be fine.

but imagine you crash into a pedestrian and kill them. discrepancy then comes to light as part of the investigation, wouldn't want to be in your shoes then.

the test is pretty easy and really enjoyable (especially as you claim you can already ride) and the cost may seem a bit steep now but when you look back in a few years it will seem the best value thing you have ever done.

(as a note to how common fk ups are when i got stopped for speeding on my bike the policeman wrote on the ticket that he had witnessed i had "A" on the licences as he had heard of people losing the entitlements more than once when the licence was renewed).

Apologies CBR damage may of been the right word to use there. No offence meant.

<chuckle> Betcha I know why the question's being asked...

I renewed my photocard last year - and got back exactly what I expected.
Then I changed the address on it, earlier this year - and gained class A...

BUT

It's class A with a restriction - Tricycles only. They've rejigged the groups a bit, and the old trike group's no longer, so it's been rolled in to A. Because they don't know if I've been using that, and they have to keep it as "grandfathered in", they add that class-plus-restriction to all replacement licences now.
