Dash warning lights
Discussion
Hi all,
Anybody out there know the origin of the dash warning lights.
I have the 400se style dash with the two vertical strips of warning lights either side of the speedo and rev counter.
I have fitted a light to let me know when the cooling fans are running, in one of the unused ones and I want to fit a coloured window with a fan decal on it.
Or should I just cut up the lid of a vegemite jar.... Lol.
Cheers

I would make your own - if you use a coloured LED you just need the decal - you can print onto acetate from a laser printer.
P.S. have you tried it out yet? When I did this, at night the lamp would glow dimly when I went quite quick. I figured out that the fan was windmilling and generating electricity...

Windmilling???? Didn't give that a thought....is there something you can put in the wire, like a one way gadget?P.S. have you tried it out yet? When I did this, at night the lamp would glow dimly when I went quite quick. I figured out that the fan was windmilling and generating electricity...

The reason I wanted this is I have an override switch so I'll know when it's on and as the weather warms up here I'd like to know when the fan is cutting in and out.

Adam H,
I too am thinking about putting LED lights, but frankly it is not a high priority. Mine had a fibre optic system which will be binned.
Adam Q,
A dim LED is interesting. Reducing the voltage will just turn it off. A simpler way is pulse width modulation, which keeps the 12 volts, but sends little pulses at a frequency higher that our eyes can detect. Could the fan be doing this? Or is that bulb incandescent?
Wilf.

I've already got rid of my fibre optic load of poop and replaced it all with green LEDs and it's made a massive improvement.

I did notice that when I turn off the fans with the over ride switch that the bulb goes to a dim glow before it goes out so that must be a result of the fans still spinning. If that starts to s
t me what can I put in the wire to stop it?
I couldn't find anything like the coloured plastic overlay for the warning light so I went looking around in my workshop on the hunt for some clear/opaque plastic, I found a stanly knife blade dispenser, clear yellow plastic (a bit Bono's glasses) so it was too clear so I shoved it in the sand blaster and it's perfect.
Cheers

There's a company think it's called vehicle wiring products? That do all this stuff including a pre printed sheet with all the decals on. I'll do a link when home this evening. The challenge is - how bright can you make it get while driving at night ;^)I did notice that when I turn off the fans with the over ride switch that the bulb goes to a dim glow before it goes out so that must be a result of the fans still spinning. If that starts to s
