Goodwood track day: 14/12/13

Join us at our exclusive PH track day at Goodwood Motor Circuit

PistonHeads are delighted to be hosting a track day at the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit on Saturday 14th December.

While the circuit needs no introduction to a PHer, you may not know that it’s the only classic circuit in the world to remain entirely in its original form, having been beautifully restored to its original glory in 1998. It has witnessed some of motor racing’s greatest heroes in action, including Juan Manuel Fangio, John Surtees, Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Stirling Moss.

Our day is open to drivers of all experience levels, and all types of car are welcome too. If they let Dan's Eunos through the gate, they'll surely allow anything... Moreover, with a Sunday Service planned to take place at the circuit the following day, why not make a weekend of it? There is accommodation close by at The Goodwood Hotel (01243 775537)and there are several other overnight options in Chichester and the surrounding area.

If you’ve never been to Goodwood before we’ll have instructor’s on-hand to get the best out of you and your car, in a safe and controlled non-competitive environment. The day will be hosted from the Sir Jackie Stewart Pavilion, and will begin with noise testing (98dB static limit), and a briefing. A maximum of 40 cars will take part in the day, running in 10-car sessions, with a price of £150 inc. vat per car.

To book, or for more information, please click this link using code gwph to purchase.

Sunday Service details will be released shortly.

Will this be run with the no overtaking rule enforced from the entrance of "No Name" to past the kink on the "Lavant Straight", about a third of the circuit ?

Looks good - presumably it's a full day, so 6 or 7 (15 minute?) sessions over the day?

Yep works well, you go out, drive your stint then come in and you join the back of the queue. 10 cars out at a time usually and if no-one is in the queue you're straight out again. smile

I'm booked,
Although preferring OPL days the sessions at Goowood do work well, find that the last hour is pretty much full track time.

Done the xjr' s here but never the Eunos, should be fun

normally run with 10 second intervals from the pit late and no overtaking on the corners, provided everyone sticks to the rules then there's plenty of opportunity to overtake.

I noticed on the booking form "no charge for additional drivers" . Can we assume that means anyone with a licence can jump in?

I would have thought so, as long as they have been to the briefing. They may frown upon turning up with 10 people though. Never tested that one.

98db! best I can manage is 104db, considering its next to an aerodrome with some very loud half century old propeller planes taking off think its a bit ridiculous!

Goodwood's web site has a clear explanation of their noise management procedures

Goodwood said:
Noise Management

The level of activity at Goodwood Motor Circuit is governed by planning conditions granted by Chichester District Council.

These conditions specify the operational hours of the venue and the overall noise limit allowed for particular days. They also require a sophisticated noise monitoring system to be permanently established at the Motor Circuit and for the venue to be operated in accordance with a detailed Noise Management Plan.

Track day grading

Days are graded from “Silent” and Category 4 days, when the driving of motor vehicles on the circuit is severely restricted and the activity is not likely to be particularly audible in the community, include Category 3 and 2 days when the circuit is in use for high speed driving activities but under strict noise limits, to a very limited number of Category 1 Race days which are allowed to be unrestricted.

Published on this section of the Goodwood website is the latest Motor Circuit calendar for the current calendar year, which includes the noise category allocated to each particular day of the year, together with a title showing briefly the activity booked to take place. This annual calendar of events will be updated on a regular basis through the year.

Also displayed here will be the current weekly calendar update. This shows the category of day run on each day of the preceding week and the highest noise reading recorded by the permanently established noise monitoring system on each day. In addition it lists the category planned for each day of the following week.

Finally, after each operating day on the Motor Circuit a report will be placed on this website that shows the noise levels recorded during that day.

The Goodwood Motor Circuit Consultative Committee meets on a regular basis and reviews the operation of the venue and its impact on the local community. This forum includes representatives of all the local councils and residents groups, together with officers of CDC and the Motor Circuit management team.

At Goodwood the access is normally not restricted, you can walk around the circuit as far as you want, or as far as the mud eventually stops you at that time of year !

The speed of your car has nothing to do with whether you'd be holding anyone up, just make sure you allow enough space for faster cars to pass and they'll sort themselves out.

Besides, you'd be surprised how quick a well driven a less powerful car can be, especially in the wet when a lot of the more powerful cars may struggle to put the power down!
