Thanks for the posts and emails - much appreciated.

The paramedics have been (AA), awaiting 'ambulance' tomorrow to take baby to hospital to be looked after by Dr Mike.

Can do a very good inmpression of the Red Arrows - generate lots of smoke at will cry

Having spoken to Dr Mike, hopefully it is a known issue with the V8 Vantage - a failure of a plastic component in the oil breathers, allowing oil into the inlet manifold. IIRC Steve (PiloteAM) had the same problem. I and the AA have checked water level, no sign of oil there, so hopefully a simple replacement of a cheap part. Needs manifolds etc to be steam cleaned so will be a few hours labour.

Will get BR to service it whilst there as its due - 7 year service. At least I can answer the question of if the car has only done 37k for the 70,000 / 7 year service do you replace the spark plugs? - if you've oiled them up then yes!

I hope it is a simple fix. Rather than clean the manifolds, why not get some new ones biggrin

New manifolds?

Whats wrong with the original ones? I wasn't aware there were different inlet manifolds available.

Hopefully the oil will not have damaged the cats. May still smoke a bit until all the oil is burnt out of the exhausts though!

Wow, fingers crossed Neil. When I read about you blowing your engine up on the other thread it did remind me of the one about the bomber who burnt his lips on the exhaust trying to blow a car up tumbleweed. Then I remembered that photo Jockman posted and I realised it's not your lips you need to worry about. wink

Lets not post that again!
A) It isn't me, no really it isn't - you can tell as my Range Rover is a P38, not a Classic
B) It will get this thread locked

Neil I'm sure that your initial fears will be unfounded. Dr. Mike will sort it out for you. You are lucky though, what an opportunity to release some ponies from your unhurt engine.

Why do the manifolds? An extra 40 horses, that's why!

Best of luck Neil - scary scenario but as others have said it's probably less serious than the symptoms suggest.

From what I've known / read over the years these cars have proven to be pretty robust.

Are you confusing your inlets with your exhausts? wink

Thanks Rob.
No upgrades will be considered, money needed for business investment at the moment.

I reckon so!

I would like to see someone get 40 bhp from new inlet manifolds.

The PCV valve could be roughly considered as an inline filter/diverter that controls the pressure inside the crankcase from blowing the oil straight into the inlet manifold, which is what it appears yours may be doing.

There was a thread here about it recently referring to oil getting into the air filters and using an oil catch tank I believe.
