Basically I want to weld a T piece into my exhaust system just before the rear silencer, then fit one of these onto the T.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXHAUST-SOUND-CONTROLLER...

The idea being I can have a nice V8 sound track when I want it, then nice and quiet when leaving at 5am, or motorway cruising.

But I don't really want to be trailing a cable from my exhaust to my dash, so was thinking if I could fit some kind of wireless switch? Had a good look on eBay etc, and the best I seem to be able to find is something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Channel-AC-DC-12V-RF-W...

Do you think that would work? Press A to activate valve, press B to release valve?

Or can anyone think of a better solution?

Cheers

Wheres the battery on your car? You've still got to run a wire from there, if you get the wires up through the handbrake cable grommet then you don't need to go near the dash for the switch.

The battery is in the boot, and it has a foot operated handbrake, so can't see getting a cable through there would be easy.

Would have to bring cable in from boot and run down side of car, which would be a right pain in arse, and would still have to fit a switch somewhere.

You will also need some way of electronically detecting that the valve is open, otherwise the remote switch will continue providing power even once the valve is fully opened.

If you watch the video they provide, you can hear a switch being toggled to power the valve.

It doesn't appear to automatically stop once fully opened.

The switch in the video appears to be a single-pole-double-throw. This would facilitate reversing of the motor to open / close the valve.

It is unclear whether the switch on the receiver is a single-pole-single-throw or the the same as the above.

The diagram on the eBay page does suggest the latter (contacts A,B=normally open & B,C=normally closed) but it may be worth checking.

The again, for a fiver, I'd just go for it.

Look carefully at the image.

It's effectively a SPDT (single pole, double throw) switch.

That valve will require a DPDT switch to operate correctly, as it will need polarity reversal to reverse the direction of the valve.

Sorry - you will need a switch with "center off".

If you have a toggle - the relay will switch state feeding 12v to "A", then as soon as the button is released, the relay will change state again providing 12v to "B", closing the valve again.

It does not have a center off position - there will always be 12v on one set of contacts (depending on which button was pressed last).

Why not use This?

The switch in the video is a single-pole-double throw (has 3 terminals with power going to the centre one).

I have corrected my post above.

Oops I meant a switch with center off.

SPDT will work - but needs to be center off.

If you have a toggle - the relay will switch state feeding 12v to "A", then as soon as the button is released, the relay will change state again providing 12v to "B", closing the valve again.

It does not have a center off position - there will always be 12v on one set of contacts (depending on which button was pressed last).

Apologies for the confusion on my part.

Good point...I hadn't thought about the centre-off requirement.
The valve may have limit switches but this isn't clear.

PoleDriver's solution looks good though!

I have a pair of wireless, Quick Time Performance (QTP) cut-outs just in front of the (only) silencers on my Monaro.

Loud

or

NASCAR loud (ie embarrassing)

biggrin

A)Just make sure it's the sound you're looking for, and

B) Keep the butterfly spindles lubed with a spray of Teflon now and again. (or WD40)

Cheers guys, pole driver you are a legend, that is absolutely perfect, and a good wedge cheaper than my solution.

Will get that bought, seems bit of a bargain really.

I'm fitting some to my Cerbera which is currently straight through from head to tailpipe! smile

I know someone who had fitted them to a Mustang and they worked really well.
Good party piece is to leave it ticking over while you stand next to the car chatting with your mates. Keep the remote fob in your pocket and you can magically open up the exhaust without moving! smile

Lol, that must be insanely loud. I've currently got no backbox and it is very loud.

I can only imagin if no cats or mid silencer it would make the earth shake hehe
