Moving from 997 turbo to GT3. In terms of options anything else a must have besides the below?

Clubsport spec(roll cage , 1 harness and a fire extinguisher)
Bucket seats
PCM
Aircon

No need for the Sports Chrono Package as it's just the stop watch correct?

Is the gen2 GT3 worth the extra money?

Anybody looking to sell a gen1 GT3 anytime soon ping me a note.

Is it being used as a DD?

I drive my 997.2 GT3 as a DD and I am so glad it isn't a clubsport, the sport adaptive seats are excellent.

I would also consider going with the phone module

What is your intended use for the car?
If its track days (which it sounds like) then make sure the car does NOT have PCCB brakes !
If it's for daily driving and long weekends/touring then the club sport roll cage can be annoying when you have luggage to store and the bucket seats may need some extra padding smile

If my memory serves me correctly, which I am not sure it does to be honest - but when I bought my 997.1 GT3 I had to spec Xenons - seeing as yours will be used mainly for track that might not be such an issue - but I can't stand a car without decent lights.

Of course I could be all confuzzled as over the years and financial self-harm I have caused myself with my serial 911 buying habit I have managed to blot out most of the money wasted on options... smile

Enjoy.

In that case, I think the spec you are looking for is pretty much bang on!

As for the gen 2, if you can afford it and it's mostly track use you will be using it for, get yourself into a nice 997.1 RS for the same money as a standard 997.2 GT3

If it really is mostly for track then don't bother with an RS or Gen2, just spend time getting to know and setting up a gen1 GT3.

Gen2 is a better road car as it rides better and is more torquey. RS not worth the extra cash for a track car IMO.

^^ This

A Gen1 GT3 is all you will need. Clubsports should have Cage, seats, Extinguisher and drivers harness only.
RS is visually more special and is a more solid investment than a gen2 GT3 which is similar money but its only marginally different to the vanilla GT3.
If tracking don't go for PCCBs though they are brilliant.

Common options were PCCBs, Sport Chrono (Just a stopwatch really on a GT3)leather rather than plastic dash.aforementioned clubsport package, xenon lights, PCM with Nav (Dated now but useful enough), sound package (Amp really and still very ordinary)
I have an original PDF Copy of the UK sales brochure from the time if you're interested

The chassis drives better out of the box (but once a decent place has geoed it there isn't much to discern them), the engine is discernibly stronger (especially low end torque), the PCM system is _much_ better if you get a car with it fitted and the folding bucket seats are much more comfortable for the more powerfully built than the fixed buckets which are the only option on a gen 1.

The big downside - however - is the centre lock wheels. These look fantastic, but in all other regards are a problem. You need a 700Nm torque wrench to take the wheels off (and there is a procedure to follow), so you must either invest in one or you can only have tyres and brakes changed at an OPC or a decent Independent specialist. Further to that - you are also exposed to the notorious "revision interval" problem : earlier this year Porsche reclassified the wheel hubs and bearings as consumables which should be replaced (at your cost obviously) every 4200 miles of track use (for the rears, longer for the fronts. The uprights also have lifed intervals).

So as things stand, the Gen2 is not only more expensive to acquire but also significantly more spendy to track. Getting a response from Porsche to concerns raised over this (which has been promised, but as yet not delivered) remains ongoing since May. If I or any of the other people waiting for it ever get an answer we will be surprised though - as the depositors for the 991GT3 are finding at the moment : Porsche GB are useless when it comes to extracting status information from AG and passing it on to customers...
