New bike - MTB content

Just bought a new bike - here is the ubiquitous kitchen shot before I go and filth to up/bend it.


Bike was a little over £2k - which seems to be very reasonable given the spec includes:

Rockshock lyric RC2 Solo air fork
Monarch RT3 Rear shock
X9 gear set
Raceface crankset
DT Swiss Wheelset
Reverb dropper post.

It shall go an put twenty miles on it today and see how we get on

Those YT bikes do seem to be really good value, let us know how it rides!

Will do - I suspect it will be pretty incredible on the descents, drops, jumps and fast corners.
Less so on the technical climbs.

Looking forward to finding out

Now THAT's a proper bike. I like that. Slack head angle, and a real rear triangle (I don't like the look of full sussers with a single arm, like the Whyte bikes - just aesthetics).

I fancy a reverb for my HT.

Online / Mail order only Bikes, from Germany I believe, or is that Rose? Either way no doubt actually made in the far east by Giant like all the others - anyway £2k for a lavishly equipped 6" FS trail destroyer, £3000 for a similarly equipped mainstream brand from a LBS or go mad on a boutique brand like Santa Cruz, Cove, Intense, Yeti, Evil etc and your two grand will just about get you the frame.

So, I've been and done 20 miles this afternoon around my local trails - and I really like the bike.
It actually pedals better than I expected and with the ability to lock out the rear shock riding on fire roads and roads is pretty decent.
And it climbs! Admittedly I'm not flying up the inclines - but for something with 170mm of travel up front on a fork without a lockout it's very capable - this I am very happy about

Sounds nice, these things are about plodding the climbs and nailing the downs!

Going downhill it feels almost like a downhill bike. And it jumps better than any other MTB I've had.
On the way home I took it to a an ancient quarry spot and it was very happy piling down inclines you couldn't climb up - stuff I'd never even thought of being able to ride before.
