I'm trying to find out what the lap record is at Goodwood. Wiki says it's 1min 18 in a Lola T70 Spider but I'm not sure that is correct.

Does anyone have any info on this?

To set the scene, my best lap last Weds was 1min 13 in my Radical SR8. I'm sure some proper kit with proper drivers must have been around?

thanks

Jack

The time is right, but lap records can only be achieved during racing. Got a video of it?!

Presumably circuit owners and TDOs are not bothered about drivers being timed on trackdays, despite all the bluster about it not being permitted?

With more and more people filming their laps, looking back and working out your lap times isn't really an issue and not what is meant by "no lap timing".

The "in period" lap record was 1m 20.4 jointly set by Stewart and Clark (I think).

In 2010, Andrew Smith did a 1m 18sec lap in a T70. I can't recall anything at the revival meeting going quicker.

F1, can-am, world sports cars in testing would have been considerably faster! I remember reading that Stefan Johansson hustled a new "out of the box" onyx round in about 1m 2secs... quick.

I thought that the issue was the fact that it was being done at all, rather than the means by which it was being done, to avoid attempts to better your own (or someone else's) time). Maybe someone in the business would enlighten us?

You can't live time. i.e. having a stopwatch in a car to have a look at, or have a friend with a stopwatch on the pit wall. There are no issues with video at all.

Bit more proper research.. SJ in the Onyx seems to be the quickest thing around goodwood. BUT,it was just a single lap (enroute to airport and not meant to be there!) and he was then a mere 10 seconds off the pace when he got to Brazil.

Scary to think what a contemporary F1 would do... low 50's / high 40's??

So the jist seems to be that you can time / be timed on the day as long as the driver doesn't activate the device in the car themselves? So a passenger could do it, yes?

'Corse I wasn't timing, that would be illegal. It just kept flashing up on my dash!
Great day graham! thanks.
Glad you're doing it again next year, it's a real honour to drive Goodwood.

In terms of lap timing, think of Time Trial, something that is generally excluded in the "Definitions" section of your Insurance also the Organisers insurance. Wonder how long it be till cameras with timing display will get banned/brought into the limelight?

Just a thought, for a fairly discreet lap time,I have on that attaches to the steering wheel centre,no one seems to know what it is.lol
