Locking wheel nuts
Discussion
I've spent over 2 hrs today trying to source a set of the above for my Vantage 06. Mcgard's recommended nuts are 57mm long and £29.99. Aston have told me they are for the DB7 and the bolts I need are 40mm, and guess what you can only get them from Main dealer £80.00. Anyone know any different?
have an 06 since nearly new, 65K miles later all over Uk an Europe and I never bothered with locking wheel nuts ...
any smart thief isnt going to nick wheels with a limited market and we Aston owners are all honest are we not? would you buy a set of cheap wheels down the pub? (why do you need a spare set anyway, its not like a popular trackday car)
/wouldnt worry about them myself unless you live somewhere dodgy

I did consider locking wheel nuts but the guy doing my tyres basically said any thief with half a brain going out to steel wheels will have a tool to get the locking nuts off just as quickly as they would get regular nuts off. Decided I wouldn't bother, will just try not to leave it in any dodgey areas.
I bought and then returned the mcgard nuts off ebay, waste of time and money. I may get around to the aston items. Have a look on ebay and see how many aston wheels are for sale, they must be coming from somewhere? The tool to remove lock nuts will take longer, cause more noise and look more suspicious so I still think locking nuts offer a degree of deterrence.
I used aftermarket locking wheel nuts and then machined off the ends so the studs went right through. Originally they were not deep enough and bottomed-out before they made contact with the wheel. Not sure what make they are but they have a strange outer shape for a corresponding socket rather than a wavy slot in the end face.
I would take a pic but its really not worth it, and its dark, and I can't be arsed anyway for a set of locking wheel nuts.

(Apologies for a Daily Hate Mail link).
LOL
that pic is the only one we have ever seen and is posted up for the last 5 years on these threads
...the kit to take off locking wheel nuts is cheaper than the locking nuts themselves, go figure...crazy world
I guess if your insurers dont cover you unless you have them fitted, you might need them...a bit like some insurers that insist on trackers....usually those insurers that own the tracker companies

I did have the AM locking wheel nuts on my Vantage but after two services they were getting difficult to remove as the socket would not hold. Maybe the dealership were using an air gun to tighten up but I doubt it, mechanic said it would be best to remove before they failed to undo completely, which I did.
Tyres are a fairly common size now so the theft may have been for the tyres alone?
True, the tools to remove the locking wheel nuts are available cheaply, but they are generally noisy to use with some major hammering involved.
If that jack had not collapsed, that last rear wheel has all but 1 bolt already off so he would have lost all the wheels.
Maybe he needed discs, pads and a couple of tyres so did it himself to get the insurers to pay the bill, until it backfired and rolled off the jack?
No claims bonus would be far less than those parts.
Someone going equipped to steal those wheels would have been prepared to use something better than bricks I suspect. Even 4 ebay axle stands would have raised less suspicion.

I've got a set of these - http://www.mcgard.com/index.php/component/hikashop...
They are too wide for my aftermarket wheels, can't get the socket down the wheel hole so I need tuner nuts.
If anyone wants them, donation to HFH secures.
