National debt and the gas rises.

An Idea that the PH massive can either see straight through and tell me im wrong or wonder why it hasn't been thought of already.
So national debt is trillions, the big 6 are all in it together to make sure there profits/share holders are kept well.
They are saying there is no competition etc so what if the government set up a supplier and competed against the big 6?
They could still charge reasonable prices for both and then instead of the profits going to share holders and the like, they could pay the profits towards the national debt.
Thus win win.

There's no money in supply, they only make a poxy 5% or so on an average domestic bill. Even if they operated as a not for profit charity, your bill would barely drop.
The money is in generation, even a massive company like Centrica only made £1.5bn in their last half yearly results, and that was from an enormous operation that spans the globe. The government wouldn't know where to start building a company that size!

It's claimed the big six have purchasing arms who buy wholesale energy (which OVO energy say has only been raised by 1.8% since 2010) and sell to the retail arms who sell to us. Hence the 10% mark up's each year....
The big six are worried to death if Miliband gets in and freezes the price they can sell at for 18 months as he will have enough time to re-nationalise the utilities.
My own circumstances are a dual fuel with a supplier, direct debit,standard tariff but with a dual reading meter (economy 7)
I was paying £110 gas & £80 electric last October....then the bill was read soon after, I did the sums when it landed on the door mat.
I then decided to read the meter and keep doing that for the next quarters even when they were estimated....by august I had £260 credit on gas, £126 credit on electric. I then clawed back the £126 and now pay £60 per month on each of them.
I did a check with OVO and they can save me a further £165 per year.
My home is a 1970 semi, cavity wall,extra loft insulation and double glazed.
I have got all my friends to check their bills and not to trust the big 6 to "put them on the right tariff" or adjust their direct debits, for a few minutes of your time you can save yourselves cash
