What car, massive fun but must be reliable,15k or PCP/Lease?
Discussion
Ok, bit of a weird one, but I am test driving a new Mini Cooper S tomorrow and really tempted by the offer (£1.5k down, £288 month PCP with a load of options) but I'm now wondering if there's a better option out there before I pull the trigger
After years of a painful 150 mile commute, I now just have to get 60 miles to the local airport once a month, where I abandon my trusty steed for two weeks while I go off to the day job. I would really like something fun and economy is not an issue, but reliability is, it also needs to be resilient enough to survive 6 months pa of Manchester sunshine and careless parkers. Budget is anywhere from 5k cash to 15-20k loan/Lease/PCP.
Got to have 4 seats, be ginormous fun and reliable, low mileage likely. Leaning towards the car as described above, but may wait for the new Mini model next year to PCP or buy a nearly new current one.....or even an older JCW, but older Minis don't seem the most reliable things in the world. Ok, PH, make my day

E39 M5 plus backup shed? £15k goes a long way! There's no chance I'd be spunking that on a Mini with such low mileage, something with at least 6 cylinders would be in order.
This I like....but just the potential for big bills putting me off a little bit. Got me thinking though
I've had a new Fiesta ST2 for a few months and love it! Get the Mountune pack (£650 fitted) and it's even better.
You can get them for £15k new if you go through a broker, be prepared for a wait though as they're in high demand.
ETA: Noticed your in Shropshire, I'd be more than happy to take you out in mine as I'm in Telford.

, I am a long time Hot Hatch fan (adored my Clio 172!) but as an old tw@t (but not as old as Madness60!) I think I'd look rather stupid in a really hot hatch

I may be older than you young pup but I'd be happy in a hot hatch! In fact a good Civic Type R would be a decent bet for a thrash to the airport and then abandoned for a few weeks

Holy thread resurrection Batman
Sure nobody is probably interested, but as an update I looked at the pros and cons of leasing, PCP or buying outright and opted for a very lightly used Cooper S with a bucketload of options for 16k. Worked out about the same costs as a lease/PCP and with almost none of the downsides....car is just over a year old and looks/feels new.
Well chuffed with it and the only downside is the banter has already started about mobile hairdressing
