You need to decide which one first. There are several kinds of CAD programs on the market. What do you want to do?

Do you need to replace hand-made drawings with computer generated ones?
Quick 2D drafts on the computer for the locksmith around the corner?
Do you work with lots of other people in complex design projects?
Do you want to generate photorealistic 3D renderings?
Do you want to generate code for NC/CNC machines/rapid prototyping?
Do you want to exchange product data with customers and suppliers?
Do you want to draw architectural or mechanical parts, assemblies or design studies; electrical circuits boards?
Do you just need it for one project, or do you plan to use it more often?

OOh complicated stuff

just want to layout a machanical design (in my head at the moment) and be able to manipulate the dimensions , and see if it works then use the final design as a basic working drawing for fabrication but not for cnc or automated manufacture, plus I have an elderly 600mghz puter with 128 ram and tnt 32mb grafix

just want to invest 10 or 20 quid not waste it!

cheers
