Hi guys,

Looking for classic car insurance for myself. I'm 19. 1 years no claims and I am trying to get insured on a 1989 2.5L BMW I sport.

Thanks for any replies smile

Norfolk and chance - Say it quick and you'll get it wink

I think pretty much all classic polices require you to be 25 and have a limited mileage. I had an 87 mk2 golf for my first motor and was refused classic policies.

You'll have to insure it normally which will be extortionate!

Managed to get a classic policy on my 205 at 20, I used Adrian Flux though IMO not the most helpful company so I now use Sky insurance who have been great.

I had to have it as a second car on a limited mileage policy, but it worked out cheaper to insure this and another car than it would of been to just insure the 205!

I had classic insurance at 17 via footman james, although I believe they no longer offer it to under 21s?

To get a classic policy I think it needs to be a second vehicle and you won't gain any no claims bonus either.

im pretty sure you cant get classic car insurance at your age. i thought it was 21 but after me having a good look around i came up with nothing, if you do get classic insurance let us know as id certianly be interested myself. it seems that it is 25 y/o to get a classic policy. my mate has an xr2 that he has to use on a limited milage policy but that still costs him over £800 a year

I've had a 1983 Golf since I was 16, and I've been trying to get classic insurance ever since - now 22 and I still can't find a good enough deal! although I was 'only' paying £350/year when I added it to my policy as a temporary car every month...

Lancaster insure for 21 and over, 3 years driving experience is a necessity mind, and more often than not, a main use car. Some others are 25 plus, but there are several insurers who go through Lancaster who will insure at 21.

Basically you've got no chance at the moment. Your choice of car doesn't help, it won't be viewed like a traditional 'starter' classic, such as a mini, or an MGB or something of the sorts. It's still a six cylinder RWD BMW, and the insurers aren't daft. I always insure my little tinkering projects through them and the bigger engined BMW's are still a fair premium.

I don't think classic policies will let you build any no claims bonus. Which is essential at your age!

Mine certainly did on my MGB. There were no limitations on things like commuting, owning another car, etc. either. That was 12 years ago, mind, things might have changed.

Mine didn't. And Flux didn't inform me of this either.
