2006 C2S - update. The keeper?

Long time no post, how's tricks?

Wife and I bought our 2006 C2S (manual) with 5k miles on it in 2008. It's now got ~34k on it.

Today's she's gone in for the annual warranty renewal. Last year, they insisted on boroscope thingy. All good and 'allowed' us to spend with them on the warranty....lmfao

This year all good again. They're replacing some oojimaflip under current warranty (ends today) and then shiny new warranty gets slapped on.

Never had any big issues. A maf sensor or two have been done under warranty previously and the steering rack was replaced.

We've also kept it serviced as recommended (next one due next March I think). And tyres have been done as and when needed. Front break pads done once, I think.

She's rarely used (as the mileage would suggest).

And when I am car dreaming, I spend HOURS dreaming of a late 997 or 991 Turbo. I've never even had a go in one

And yet - unlike most (all?) PH folk I am no driving God. This 'humble' C2S is capable of way more than I can ever exploit. Without fail, I enjoy every single drive.

Earlier this year wife and I drove with friends down to Oxfordshire for a night away.
Us in the 911 our friends in a 458 and a DBS. My mate with the 458 is a driving god and I couldn't get anywhere near him. You'll be pleased to hear there was a very large gap between us and the DBS though. Such a fun blast driving day out (all at legal speeds, natch).

So despite the cost of warranty, insurance, tax, MOT, servcing, tyres, fuel depreciation etc - I think it's been worth every penny.

The engine hasn't melted (yet) and she still runs like a dream. Time to update/upgrade yet? Nah.

I need to take her out more.....


(Ps. Obviously I'll be posting in here the very second my better half gives the ok on the turbo ).

I was exactly the same boat as you, albeit with a 2005 C2S. For the money (even +£10k) I can't find anything that I would prefer and use often. The warranty has covered a lot for me including RMS, IMS fiddling, gear box, front suspension, coil packs, roof seals and so on. I've extended the warranty, however end of Sept next year is as far as it goes for OPC warranty cover. I could keep it, start a 'slush fund' and service at GT One Chertsey but I like all the sucking up from Porsche Guildford, courtesy cars, track days and new model launches.

My current thoughts are Panamera V8S and Golf GTI or Audi Q5 and 997.2 C4S. I would like a 2wd GTS but still big money or a 997 GT3 with rear seats...

unless you want a 997 Turbo/GTx range or change to 991 I don't see the point in changing.

you must be pretty confident of its reliability. question is would you keep it once its beyond its warranty period?

Maybe another way to look at it is a newer car will cost you say 4 - 500 a month in depreciation, put that aside with the money that you are not forking ouT for a warranty re newal and you can foot the bill for an engine rebuild after one year.

Or, put it on the Hartech plan.
