Is the Clio 197/200 gearbox one of the all time greats?

I can't speak highly enough of the gearbox Renault used in those cars. Just wow. The short, slick change and the way you can just go up and down the gears at high revs all day and the box just takes it in it's stride.

My old R27 was on 75k miles when I sold it and the box still felt like new. All my friends report similar findings on their Clios.

The box felt so strong that I'm sure it would go on forever!

Mine is a joy to use especially first thing on a cold morning, tempted to stop using the clutch such is my faith in the box, mainly when shifting down into 3rd.
