Took the car down to its new home in Cheltenham last night but I can't accelerate hard as it seems to stall and not want to rev, cruising around its fine though. I do wonder if there is bad fuel at the bottom o the tank going through the system as it hasn't been used much in the last 3 years. It also had a new fuel pump last year which seems very loud as if its struggling. Should I try running it for a while until its had a few tanks through the system or could it be something else?

Main fuel filter is on the outlet side of pump so a blockage/restriction shouldn't make pump sound like it's struggling but there may be a gauze or mesh pre-filter in the bottom of the tank that could be limiting fuel supply to pump?
If there is a lot of cr*p getting through it won't be doing your new pump a power of good!

I'd have thought so, a pump that is struggling for fluid, be it petrol, oil, water or whatever will often sound tinny or rattly. whereas pumping harder, against a partial blockage or a high head tends to quieten a pump if anything (imho)Put the car up on ramps today and found a kink in the hard plastic fuel hose so have cable tied it to a cork to try and keep it straight, took it for a drive and all seemed well as i was able to accelerate through the gears without the stalling (although I still think the pump is noisy) but then one final burst in 2nd before turning into the drive and it hesitated again 
, not sure how much petrol is in the tank as I only put £20 in on Wednesday morning so maybe it's just a bit low now. Will fill it up next week and use it for work if the weathers nice to see if its improved or not .

Will fill it up next week and use it for work if the weathers nice to see if its improved or not .As it wasn't supposed to rain today I took the car in to work, for most of the journey it was fine but towards the end it really started to struggle so I dropped it into the garage next to work as I didn't fancy it getting back to Cheltenham (from worcester). they've had a look and the filter before the pump was full of cr*p. He's put a new filter on so I should be okay getting home (although I can still hear the pump constantly?. i guess that the lack of use over the last couple of years along with the petrol cap not sealing properly has caused corrosion in the tank. Question is whats the best way to approach clearing the tank out?

Tom, I have a similar problem with my car - it wasn't used much at all (400 miles in 2 years or so), so I replaced the pump and filter and still hear the pump chew up some crud every now and then. I think the only real solution is to remove the tank, get it blasted out, then coat the inside with POR15 is something like that. It's a job I keep putting off because I haven't done anything like it before, but eventually I will either do it myself or take it to someone that has a lift and can clean and coat the tank for me. If I lived in the UK, I would seriously consider just buying a new tank so I can DIY it over a weekend without nasty surprises.

Would shipping costs be astronomical? (an American seller on Ebay did want about $60 to send me 12 small ARP bolts !!!)Failing that, the tank is a fairly straight forward design, maybe get one made?
There have been a few posts in the past about tank cleaning/coating, opinions seemed to vary from "very good" to "coating all fell off and made things worse"
