I've due to be flying out of Heathrow at 20:20 to Thailand.

Last night (03.00am) I was diagnosed with Tonsillitis and have just picked up my perscription of penicillin and Solpadol.

I've not slept more than 5 hours the past two days due to high fever and pain.

We live in Birmingham so will be catching a train to Euston then a tube to Heathrow.

I can't let the missus down as we've been planning this for months and we'll lose the money for the flights as well as other knock on effects.

It feels as if there is a spiked tennis ball stuck in my throat.

What the fk do I do?

There was a time I was getting tonsillitis 2-3 times a year, in addition to taking the pills gargle with mouthwash 2-3 times a day to try to attack the infection at source. In regards to pill relief McD style thick shakes feel amazing, but the effect doesn't last long and they obscenely bad for you in terms of fat content.

In my experience you're looking at day 3 before the antibiotics start to take hold.

Try to get better co-codamol, over the counter is usually 8/500 (8mg of Codeine, 500mg paracetamol) prescription is 30/500 smile and will help you sleep, in fact you'll sleep whether you want to or not.

Might be worth finding out how Thailand feels about Codeine actually...

Go, you'll feel better in a couple of days.

If you don't go you will bloody regret it.

I'm sure there are certain 'ladies' in Thailand who will have something for you to gargle.

Currently running around like the proverbial trying to pack a bag.

I don't do failure so I'll make it out there whether it kills me.

Probably just drown in a pool of my own saliva.

I'll keep you updated.

Not sure if that is the one I had, but it definitely worked.

We were on a family trip to the USA a few years ago, and I spent a couple of days in misery, swallowing tennis balls wrapped in razor blades every minute or so. The sister in law saw I was in misery and offered me some throat spray, which worked almost instantaneously.

This.

Also, if you're stopping in any Gulf states beware of carrying codeine.

What a wuss.

First time I had tonsillitis I just thought was coming down with a bit of a cold - sore throat, thick-headedness, a bit spacey. I would've gone to work but feeling just slightly rough was a good enough excuse not to go in. Only found out I had tonsillitis when I thought about getting the GP to have a look in case I had a good excuse.

I can't remember not sleeping or otherwise not enjoying some days off, that became a week due to being contagious (food sector). I used to love getting tonsillitis tbh but I haven't had it for years now. frown

Maybe drugs at Uni prepared me for it all? Different people, different perceptions I guess.

Surely insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions?
