A nice Police story ( for a change)

Today I was driving back from Glasgow to Motherwell in my old Maserati Khamsin. As I turned into a junction I saw a traffic patrol car ahead, which sped up n seeing me. It then followed me about a mile before pulling me over with blue lights.
Both the Police officers just wanted to know what type of car it was and to have a look at it and know all about it! I spent about 10 minutes with them showing them the car. The reason the waited to pull me over was they were enjoying the sound of the car so much!
I think that is the 5th time I have been pulled over by Police just to see the car I was driving!

Good that you see this in a positive light (and I really don't mean to put a negative slant on the otherwise happy thread Both the Police officers just wanted to know what type of car it was and to have a look at it and know all about it! ) ....but I'd be pissed off if this was me, both from a point of view of wasting my time/the negative feeling of getting pulled over, and also from the point of view of the Police abusing their powers and not getting on with the job they are being paid to do.

If a traffic officer wound down his window at lights, said he was interested in my car and asked if I had a few minutes to stop and talk with him about it; I'd be delighted to oblige (assuming I had the time).
If a traffic officer followed me, stopped me "with blue lights" and then said it was just because he wanted to talk about my car; I would be very grumpy indeed.

I been pulled twice for the same reason in my mk3 cortinas
One was show room condition original with lie mileage and the traffic cop dad had one identical he was over the moon
Getting to see and sit in it.
Other time I smoked the tires pulling away to fast after fitting a mild tuned v8

Interesting views. I suppose I am a bit different in that I get used to people being interested in the old bangers that I drive. I therefore consider that part of the responsibility and pleasure of ownership is to let others know about and experience tge cars.
I knew immediatly why I was pulled over and the cops were a bit sheepish in case I was annoyed. However the first thing I said to them was ' Did you pull me over to look at the car?'
Some of you may remember on one of the first PH runs I organised that some young cops pulled me over in the QV on Loch Lomond side. They initially claimed I had crossed a double white line. I politely said they were mistaken and did they want to look at my car. At that point 15 + PH cars stopped and we had a good carry on with the police resisting multiple requests to arrest me!
A lot of us on here know cops and traffic cops and there a lot of traffic cops on this forum who generally keep a very low profile but know who we are and our cars. In general my experience is they try to excercise what discretion they have although everyone has a different take
If you get pulled ask to have a play in their cars and to see all tge toys they have in there.

Something similar. A few months ago, I was meeting the BMW troops at Showcase at Coatbridge prior to a monthly drive and dine. Parked my car up and went to McD's for a snack as my pal and I were way too early. On my way back to the car (breakfast bap and cuppa in hand) a bloke approached me and said "Are those your Beemers over there lads?" I confirmed that they were and his reply was "Watch yursels, the f'kin traffic bizzies are checing your moturs oot).
Happy to report that it was my "Traffic Bizzie" mate (and fellow BMW guy) stopped by for a cuppa and catch up, which was cool but I was a wee bit confused when his pal asked me if my V10 M5 had 340BHP. Teehee. I gave him the correct facts and figures and his reply was "Cool mate !"
I like the Original Posters story, clearly the BiB were at a slack point in the day and I'm sure the stop wasn't in a "PULL OVER ! I WANNA ADMIRE YOUR CAR........NOW MISTER!!" manner. I bet they asked politely if the driver had a moment or two.

Does the control for the blue lights have a "if you wouldn't mind awfully" setting?No, blue lights are for when they are responding to an emergency or need to alert another driver to their presence.
They are for situations requiring urgent action.
Some people really panic when they see blue lights.
If use of blue lights is acceptable when a police officer wants to have a nose around someone's car then use of blue lights is acceptable when a police officer wants to get home for his tea.
They must be reserved for "real" situations otherwise people will start ignoring them.

LOL Have you just realised why you see so may police cars with blue lights just before the change of shifts!! 35 years ago when one of my then best mates joined the Police, I don't think they used them for anything else! .

Do you not see my point that use of blue lights for trivial matters and non police business has a potential to devalue their impact?
It's no LOLing matter.
