...well, sort of...

Was out on Weds and driving in normal traffic but when I put my foot on the Gas to accelerate a little, the clutch slipped.
I was very shocked as it hasn't neen 4K since I put a whole new pack in.
When I installed it I paid particular attention to the pushrod adjustment on the Master Cylinder (as I'd broken 3 fingers after my previous re-assembly) such that the clutch would only disengage at the very bottom of pedal travel.
In my (feeble) mind this would lead to a tendency of lack of slip, rather than encouraging it.
I then started to think that maybe I hadn't screwed the Clutch pack onto the flywheel strongly enough but thought if that were true then the whole gearchange procedure would be shot. scratchchin

Anyone got any genius ideas about early slippage ?

Not too much debris in the Master reservoir....

....and no oil lost so I adjusted the pushrod U-nut in 5 turns and Hey presto ! Clutch slip has gone. Unfortunately the gear changes aren't as smooth as they should be.

ETA
Doh ! can't engage anything today frown

Anyone any idea how many mm the clutch should move to fully disengage ?

Pleeeeeeeeease bow

Think you have overdone it on the pushrod adjustment matey! Wind it back a couple of turns.Have you changed the master cylinder?because if you have you should have used the pushrod from your original master cylinder and the stroke will be correct.! The best thing to do is press the clutch pedal without the car started without it in gear, you should feel pressure behind the pedal until it's about 3/4 pressed and then the pressure should reduce indicating the clutch is released.I would adjust the pushrod until you get this feel then it will be somewhere about right.!,?

Cheers Alan,wavey

I only replaced the seals in the M/C last time but reset the pushrod activation range because I'd bust 3 fingers.

Will have a go at what you've described.

Just to close the thread with a positive....

It turned out that, when cold, the Clutch would be difficult to disengage but when hot it would slip. After several beers and trying to explain the situation to a friend I decided that it must be air in the oil. I bled the system a few times with no improvement.
I finally bled 1.5 litres into the system and the problem is resolved !
(Still quite shocked how much liquid is in there yikes)

Hi Paul, I have had to replace my clutch master cylinder again and I couldn't bleed the clutch so resorted to a Gunson's Ezebleed kit which is pressurised from a spare tyre through the reservoir. This did the job but had to purge the whole system which like you say took about 1.5 litres of fluid......so far so good.... touch wood!

Hi Alan,
Yup, that's what I used too. However this time, I managed to connect it up properly without any air/fluid leaks and it worked like a good 'un !

It doesn't work if there are any air/ fluid leaks, I had to use both the thin & thick seals on the cap on the reservoir to get it to work.
