Looking at buying a BM, the hpi is showing that the car is manual but it is an auto. Any thoughts?

It's not unusual to see the odd little mix-up like that, but it would be enough for me to check the vin and engine number just to be sure.

Looked at BMW archive and entered vin number, it comes back as an auto. Why is hpi wrong?

What does the V5 show? HPI probably just using the DVLA data.

HPI make mix-ups all the time, nothing to worry about, the most recent one for me was my 3.0 944 S2 coming back on a HPI as a 2.7 944S.

You can write to them and get it corrected. Generally pretty reliable but the odd bloomer is thrown in now and again.

DVLA states manual. No idea what is going on. I've not looked at V5 yet as I'm looking at car tomorrow at a dealers. As I said before when I entered the vin number on the BM site it comes up with the colour, interior, extras and states auto.

Auto auto or semi-auto SMG / DSG type thing? I remember when Alfa / BMW brought out the first mainstream automated manuals in the early 00's HPI and the DVLA got themselves in a right state over it - I wrote no less than a 100 finance deals on E46 M3's way-back-when and the SMG ones would sometimes HPI manual, sometimes auto. It was a pain because the RV was slightly different.
