Hi all need some suggestions on PCMCIA wifi card.

Have a BT Voyager card at present but its a bit bricklike sticking out the side of laptop.
Wondered if anyone new of one that slides completely into the slot or one that has a detachable/retractable aerial so that card can at least remain in machine when I have to put it in case.

Speedwide prefer g over b but not overly important.

Any help

Netgear cards are pretty good and the antenna isn'ttoo big. Unfortunately you need the antenna to get a good signal. A lot of laptops I have looked at have had inernal cards and the reception is sh*te. An antenna is just something you have to put up with.

Agree with the Netgear reccomendation, I use a netgear 54g that does me fine - it does stick out a bit, but still fits in the case. Range wise not bad, I can use it in the garden which was the main point.

We are using a Netgear WG511T, works well and range doesn't seem too bad. I also use the WG111 USB adaptor which works really well.

WG511 card work fine for me too. Sticks out a bit but is pretty unobtrusive

Cheers for the info. Will have a look into it, certainly looks in the picture like it will be a neater option than current card.

Is that a 'mans' inch or a proper one?

I have 3 com cards with retractable aerials, only 11mb though.

EDIT! one of these

The black bit slides into the card and fits flush with the laptop. Still get some signal, but need it out for full bandwidth. Great piece of kit IMO.

Thank you Thank you - This is exactly sort of thing I was looking for. Will get the order in asap.

Edited to say: Even a link on on that page to B/G version, bit more dosh but probably worth it.
