So they're all lined up at 1500 quid, 2k, 3k , 5k, 8k 9k some with high miles, some with inter galactic miles, some rusty, some nice etc etc.... then something slightly out of the ordinary pops up.
A car with an almost full service history, all but one of its 20 (19) MOTs, every service invoice, and a full service at over 1k at the OPC ( full and including belts etc). The thing looks, feels and drives like a new car, and I mean a new car, so it should with only 18.5 k miles!
Now I know cars with 100k, 150k and even plus 200k still cut the mustard, but hey this is a car that's a 9.5 from 10 and still has a full life ahead of it, so what's the old almost virgin worth then ?
Other than many many miles left to complete.
Thoughts ?

£10k IMO,

It's a good car, but not yet a collectable. Problem is at that mileage do you enjoy it or preserve it?

It's a new car! It feels like your sat in the OPC ready to take it away for the first drive in 1990. I suppose value is open to discussion and opinion.
When did the last sub 20k 944 minter hit the road. He'll I'm thinking 15k wouldn't be crazy and 250k miles as a daily driver here I come!
I'm an air cooled 911 man but the new 944 feel for the price of a good spec VW Polo!!

Time to leap me thinks and enjoy.........

S2's never will be collectable, Porsche dumbed down the S2 for cost reasons and to protect the 911, the natural 944 development would have been a 3.0 turbo or an extra cylinder or 2 but those extra 8 valves were much cheaper. There's plenty of cars I'd put £10-15k into before I'd even think about a feeble 4 cylinder 210 bhp 3.0.

I think feeble is a bit over the top. These cars a quick enough and have great mid range punch. 150mph isnt bad is it?

Remind me again how much power the ultimate 911 2.7RS has again?

Don't know much about the 2.7 RS, did it come out in 1972 and weigh around 1100kg wink.

Just like every car the 944 has to be seen for what it is. Sure it's not the fastest but neither is it slow. Maybe worth remembering it was the most powerful 4 pot in the world for a time
I've been very pleasantly surprised by the 944 only ever having driven one for the first time last week. It's good just like the 911 but in its own way, so maybe it has to been seen just for what it is, a reliable comfy GT car great for everyday driving and capable of mega miles if looked after.
This one should see another 200k plus on the counter. It's also an unusual colour " azurite blue" with linen and blue piping.

A 944 with under 20K miles is a collector's car, never designed to be driven more than to it's MOT each year. If it's in completely immaculate, original condition, with no "missing" paperwork, it's worth a premium.

Sadly, an S2 is right at the bottom of the pecking-order of "collectible" 944s, so it's a car to be avoided IMO. Unless it's priced the same as a decent one with proper use to make it a better buy.

Collectors want turbo cabs, followed by Silver Rose, early turbos, late turbos, then VERY early Luxes. Oval-dash lux, S or S2 aren't museum cars, and never will be worth that massive premium.

I'd say any S2 is a £10K car: whatever you pay up-front you'll spend £10K once it's sorted. This is a £10K car you might not have to do a lot to, but it'll never be a pension fund.

Luke.

" a collectors car never designed to be driven" how's that then ? " bottom of pecking order of collectible 944s its a car to be avoided" and then " priced the same as a decent one" have you seen the car and whats not decent about it ? Whats pecking order meaning ?And whats a " pension fund" got to do with the cost of fish fingers ?
I'm not really getting all this collectible pension fund talk I thought we were discussing a low mies 944 S2 ?
Is your criteria based on.
Pecking order.
Pension funds.
Not being a decent car ( assuming you've seen it)
And being a collector
Sorry I'm not getting this at all.

15.8

17,900 miles

All Mots except one
Done several hundred miles each year.
Full major service ( inc belts plugs etc late oct at plus 1k at OPC) Oct 2013
Sticking ABS sorted and lean OPC bill of health.
Nothing is a 10 but I'd give this a 9 to 9.5
Original tool kit / black case elec pump everything never opened to use .
When you sit in it its the little things like the new steering wheel , buttons / switched crisp firm and fresh
And that new car feel when you drive, you know the feeling you only get with any new car. The door clunk, the suspension , the firmness in the seats, I'm sure you understand what I mean.

Fuel and brake lines underneath like new, I don't think it's every seen winter use. All labels /stickers are in place including the barcode factory label in the passenger door closure. Fresh as a daisy!!
Weird really...

Your money would be better spent on a 968 CS with a few more miles.

My point is that £15K 944s, low mileage museum pieces, are not everyday cars: using them will devalue them overnight.

If it's a museum-piece you want to sell, the buyers don't want an S2 to stick in their multi-car garage because the S2 is low on the "collectible" list compared with other 944s. It's sought-after as a car to do proper miles in.

So, this car might be perfect, but IMO you'd be better off spending the money on a different model if it's a museum-piece you're after, or a lot less on a more useable S2 if it's an S2 you're after. Not that complicated an opinion, but a valid one I think. smile
