I'm struggling to think what I could get.
Situation - we're moving house any my commute is going up to 85 miles each way each day. I currently run a Saab 9-5 which I love, but which gets me 30ish mpg. That will have to go.
Criteria:- something which will do a week's commuting without visiting a fuel station. I hate wasting time filling up! Realistic commuting speeds are a 70mph dual carriageway cruise.
The mileage will rack up quickly so it needs to be reliable but I'm not willing to lose a ton of money in depreciation, so the starting budget is £2k.
PH thinking caps on!

I rented a pug 207 diesel a couple of years ago, and managed 600miles on its full tank - has to fill it up about 20 miles from the airport where I was handing it back, as I lost my nerve with the fuel light roulette. If I recall it was quite comfortable, if a bit dull
tbh, that commute is going to be pretty painful after a while, I would be looking for a new job, or not moving that far away

You must be getting paid a shed load of cash to make an 85 mile each way commute financially worth while, it must also be a very rewarding job to make up for spending that amount of time on the road.
Not really, there are a lot of other factors at play. Basically a downsize and being closer to parents to save money on childcare are the two key drivers.I've only been in my current job for 8 months since leaving the forces so I'm not keen to move jobs for a couple if years.

Gas your Saab - that will get you another 250 miles or so range.
Trouble is, then you'll be liking the money saving so much that you'll want to keep the LPG full...
I have thought about LPG. It does answer the question in terms of price, but with most LPG cars having a range of about 250 miles, I'd have to fill up daily and that annoys me.Trouble is, then you'll be liking the money saving so much that you'll want to keep the LPG full...
