Sorry, just another 'what car'
Discussion
I'm 18 and have been driving 7 months and I am already on my second car, looking for my third, so not a good start.
I started with a 52 plate zetec fiesta with 110,000 miles then the gearbox went, so I got rid of that got given a Peugeot 206 1.4 with 125k miles on, I really don't like this car, and I think it's on its way out.
So I saved some money and now have a budget of around 4k for the car and insurance at a max of 2.5k
I want something a bit different rather than a corsa, clio etc etc.
So far I was thinking: A mini one, renault twingo GT, 2008 ford fiesta zetec S, or something a bit different like a ford capri etc, any ideas? thanks guys.

You're young an inexperienced, so will probably crash it.
Sorry but thats just b
ks.Me and most my friends passed our tests at 17/18 and the only one who has been in an incident was crashed into by a middle aged man.
Especially when you're spending a lot of money for your age on something like a car you take care of it.
Mk1/1.5 Focus 1.6.
Spend perhaps £1.5k for a well looked after one and it'll see you well. Decent handling, has aged well and not too complex to work on if needed. It's a good way to learn about the workings of the car and parts are cheap enough.
I recommend the 1.6 because with mixed driving you should see just under 40 mpg. I have a 1.8 and average around 35 mpg. Being 18, 105 bhp should be more than enough, as Willy says you'll probably just crash it
Zetec trim is a decent spec with the excellent heated front screen, electric windows and mirrors and alloys. They aren't exactly rare so you should be able to take your pick.
Save your money for a few more years, then when you have a few more NCB and experience, buy something a bit 'hotter'.
Edit: spelling.

Ah that common stereotype again, as with the other young driver on here, only one friend of mine has crashed since passing, three years ago. This was down a country road in the rain with mud on the road..Not all young drivers are awful

It comments like this that puts PH down. Its Mummy's boys who get bought a car and dont give a f
k about the car they drive that crash. The ones that save like f
k (Me!) and the OP by the sounds of things, who take care of their car(s) and treat them respect, are the ones who dont. Unfortunatly there is no way for an insurance company to tell the difference, hence high premiums.JohnWest said:

Good advice. I ran a Mk1.5 TDCi-Sport (boggo diesel with Zetec suspension, 17s and ST170 bodykit) for a year / 20k miles, and at the same time my wife was running a 51-plate (original-shape) Zetec-S Fiesta. Both were very good cars - the Zetec-S was a little go-kart, lovely engine, sharp front-end, but was less-refined, not as nice inside and with the short wheelbase wasn't that friendly when you did breach the limits in the wet.
By contrast the Focus felt at least a generation newer (interior still not that dated), clearly better balanced and more communicative, and a better all-rounder. Still one of the best fwd chassis in my opinion.
So the Fiesta for 'cheap thrills', something to chuck-around, and a good-looking car, the Focus for something 'nicer to own' and something to help you learn how to drive a car well...
(If you're talking the 2003-2008 Fiesta, I'm a little less-enamoured of them - they've lost the go-kart-ness of the original but don't QUITE have the polish of the Focus...)
