After a bit of advice from the experts on here.
I have ordered some stuff from Vex on the PH group buy, but being the impatient type and wanting to persuade swmbo that it is a good investment, I popped out and bought a Play 1.
Set the bridge up in my office upstairs, put the Play 1 in the kitchen, wouldn't recognise it (location wise it is the room immediately beside the one under my office), assumed it couldn't get a wireless signal, although my phone was getting a good signal from my wireless rooter.
Moved Sonos bridge and attached it to the AirPlay bridge I have in the lounge, still won't play in the kitchen (dining room in between), bit surprised, but moved the Play 1 to the dining room and it started working.
However it won't play a complete song, I have tried from Spotify and when that stopped several times I tried with the library on my iPhone but that does the same.
Is it usual to have so little range on a Sonos Bridge ? Anyone any ideas why the songs keep dropping out ?
At the moment the wife is underwhelmed to say the least so any advice appreciated.

If you run the PC/Mac program (not the app) the settings allow you to change the wifi channel that Sonos is using. Lack of comms usually means it is sat on or near the channel used for the standard wifi / router.
Remember Sonos does not use the house wifi, it sets up its own wifi network.

just a quick update, and thanks for the advice.
I spent about an hour on the phone to Sonos support, they were very helpful. In the end they diagnosed a faulty bridge, so I swapped that and managed to get things connected and in the right place.
They did tell me that the Sonos kit has a range of about 15 foot so as I add stuff it will build the network and allow me to have stuff in th eright rooms.
I also had to change the channel because it did still drop out from time to time, thanks for that Chris.
Has been running all day so far without issue.
I can see this is going to start costing me loads of money.
