Here goes.

I don't care what's on the plate.

I just want a three letter, three number combo - strictly, and in that order, also strictly. I.e. ABC 123 format.

Cheapest I have found so far are advertised at £299, but with the transfer fee and VAT the true cost becomes £470-ish.

The numbers seem to be selected to be pretty, e.g. "454" "272" "636" - that sort of thing, which I don't care about.

Any alternatives to dealers, something that Google does not know about?

In reality I'd be happy to pay £300 all-in but not more.

That looked very promising, thanks, until I read this:

"The registration number can only be assigned to a vehicle, registered, or about to be registered in Northern Ireland."

Have I missed something?

Yes, thats the case - works the other way around for a Northern Ireland registered car wanting to put mainland UK plates on.

You'll have to either know someone with a N.I registered car willing to do the transfer for you, or use one of the many dealers online that offer the facility - however, they simply buy the plate you want direct anyway, so may as well buy it at the source to save a bit of money!

Might be worth keeping an eye on eBay.

Out of interest, why are your requirements so specific that the plate has to be 3-letters 3-numbers, and yet you don't care what those letters and numbers actually are?

You can't transfer a NI number plate on a NI cert to a UK car straight away - it has to go onto a NI car first and then transfer off. Therefore the transfer fee that you're essentially paying is £160. To get one for £300 means £140 cost which is not going to be achievable.
You may find someone on ebay wanting to sell one which is on a mainland uk car already, and therefore only pay the £80 fee instead.
We've got a couple of proper 3x3 Uk registrations for not much more.

Cheapest I could see on eBay (only had a quick look though) was 'SSU 826' which is up for £400, but there will probably be fees to add on. However, two days to run and no bids...perhaps contact the seller and ask if they would consider an offer if it doesn't sell? I did that when I bought my plate...nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I have 'XAZ 747' on retention. Open to offers - had it about 4 years and never assigned it to a vehicle and doubt I ever will! Would suit a jumbo jet pilot with the initials XAZ!!!!

Thanks Yili.

Ironically perhaps, I don't want the car to stand out... as you may therefore deduce, I use it outside the UK a lot.

I think I get it - intentional confusion as to the origins of the vehicle for the purposes of evading automated detection of traffic offences?!

Unfortunately not smart enough to do your research work in a less public place. rolleyes

Get a 2 letter 4 digit UK plate. More expensive perhaps, but classier and les flic will think you're from Luxembourg....

"No."

You'll have to make do with that.

I will, if you can adjust the letters and numbers just a little bit.
