Fancy having a go at making some ale for Chrimbo. Been looking around the bay but Im a little confused as to whats best to go for.

This worth the cost?

Festival kits are good reliable tasty brews so you csn't go far wrong. I use budget barrels and not had a problem so worth pricing items individually. Patience is a virtue so always allow longer to brew than the instructions. You're right to start now, despite most instructions stating 4 weeks or so allow a couple of months.

I've just bought the version of that starter kit that doesn't have the heat plate - most days there's someone in the house, so we have heating on nearly all the time, and it's never set to less than 18 degrees.

Started my first brew this afternoon - a wheat beer.

Not sure how it'll work out, yet - but I'm looking forward to trying it in a few weeks.

For the kit you're getting, it could possibly be done for £60, but as a package, this is probably hard to beat
