The forward offside corner of my boot lid is 3/8 in higher than the surrounding bodywork, doesn't appear any obvious way of adjusting it to fit flush, any one had the same problem and know how to rectify this?

I have tried adjusting the brackets and boot lock to no avail. It sits flush if I take the seal off so had thought of cutting the lip back the seal sits on but need to grow a pair before I get the dremel out!!

I already took off some of the lip with my Dremel but it didn't seem to improve the fit after the seal was put back. I think that perhaps the design of the hinges doesn't allow them to work well in pulling the lid down, or perhaps the gas strut on the nearside has the effect of pushing up the offside?

Hi,
Had this problem. Where the hinge bracket bolts to the body you will see it is packed with washers, between bracket and body. Add or remove washers to raise or lift the boot lid in relation to the body work.

I had this problem with my Griff.Tried the hinges etc.In the end it was the two rock hard rubber boot stops causing the boot alignment to be slightly out.I removed them and fitted soft foam ones instead.Improved the fit and the closing is now a gentle press rather than a slam.

As with all TVRs there is (or can be) a variation in the moulded part so some fit better than others. Talking to the guys at S&D it's apparent that some boot lids can only be made to fit correctly by actually altering the shape itself, others respond to being packed as suggested above.

Thanks for the responses guys
I think I'll have a go at packing with additional washers before I take to the dremel. However looking closer, I do think Dark matter has two good points i.e. effect of hinge design and gas strut on near side, maybe it"s a combined effect of both? I'll try fixing it one evening this week and then post how I get on. I'm trying to ignore the possibility of a distorted lid for the moment!

try removing the rubbers and stops and struts, so you can see and get the alignment right without anything else interfering, then put the other bits back on fettling as you go to keep it correct

I wonder whether the boot lids sit flush on the SE models which I believe have a different hinge?

As suggested by Steve, I think I'll start by removing the stops and struts, will be interesting to see if the lid is a better fit without the strut.

I wonder if the hinge design was changed on the SE as a result of problems with the lid fit?
Can anyone supply a photo of the SE hinge?

Can't find any rubbers or stops on mine, are they on the lid or the tub?

The stops/rubbers 2 off are on the rear of the lid

Just had a go at sorting out this boot lid problem, started by disconnecting the strut, this didn't make any difference. I then removed the rubber seal and bingo the boot lid came down flush to the surrounding body. I noticed that the lip the rubber seal fits on was taller by about quarter of an inch at the offside front compared to the nearside front. I still think the design of the hinge is an issue and packing it out with washers won't solve the problem. So I've decided to take the dremel to the offside lip the seal fits on; a job for Saturday.

Had similar with my Tuscan after a respray and then a few hundred miles later the boot didn't seem to fit any more. Obviously I was OK to start with. TVR Specialist (not the one that did the respray) said it couldn't be fixed as boot panel was twisted / deformed.

After trying various things, I ended up disconnecting the strut and then slightly loosening every hinge bolt and then pushing the boot lid into place, then tightening everything up and seeing if things were improved. At about the 5th attempt I finally identified the hinge that needed adjustment, and now all sorted.

So if it's anything like mine, adjust each hinge one by one will eventually get you sorted.
