Transsexual wins right to marry

A transsexual today won her battle to be recognised as a woman and to marry under British law.

Christine Goodwin took her battle to the European Court of Human Rights on the grounds that the UK's failure to recognise her new identity breached her human rights to respect for private life and her right to marry.

Miss Goodwin's lawyers challenged the failture of British law to recognise her sex change, thereby denying her the right to claim a pension at the age 60 instead of 65.

She was also not given a new National Insurance number after the operation, which allowed her new employers to discover her former sex. This caused her to be sexually harassed and embarrassed at work, her lawyers claimed.
I Don't Fcuking believe this lot!

Have an aspirin and lie down for a bit - your head must be hurting by now.

You should know by now that if we can get something wrong, we will and if someone looks at someone in the "wrong" way, then its off to court you go for hurt feelings: anything goes in this crazy litigatious world we have built for ourselves.

So, just to clarify.

She/it was embarrassed about people at work knowing she/it was a transexual, so went to the court of human rights? Talk about keeping a low profile.

I notice that the report goes on to say:

quote:
A working group of officials from 12 UK government departments are reportedly drawing up proposals to give transsexuals the right to change their birth certificates

Now there is an interesting debating point. If you change your name or nationality then your birth certificate doesn't get changed. In fact, I can't think of any change to one's circumstances that changes your birth certificate. Yet here we have a proposal to do just that.

Personally, I think a transsexual shouldn't be able to change the birth certificate. After all, it is a legal record that on a certain date & time at a certain place a child of a certain gender was born, and that the parents subsequently gave it a certain name.

This information is still true even if that child later on decides to adopt another name, nationality or even gender, surely? Anything that happens after the birth should not affect the information that was correct at the time of birth.

Having said that, if you're marrying someone as a woman and haven't told them you were once a man then I guess it could be a bit of a giveaway if your birth certificate says you are male!

Yeah, but if he/she didn't tell you they used to be a man, then can't you take them to court for "false advertising" or something?

Can't wait for a trial like that.

Stubble is another good giveaway too, if you're ever in that kind of situation...

Its stuff like this that reminds me of the creeping realisation I've had for some time now that I am no longer equipped mentally to function in the modern world we live in.
I need to lie down now. Somebody wake me when sanity reigns again.

Do you guys think the politburo secretly monitors this site because if it does there is no way I could possibly express my opinion without the intervention of the Chief Bottom Inspector?
You see, I feel, well, irritated by this subject.

Without wanting to get too medical (or indecent), how do they do this kind of thing anyway?

Ok, a knobectamy and breast implants plus a huge dose of female hormones, but surely they can't make anything functional down below, can they?
